Position: Assistant Maintenance Technician Spring Branch Community Health Center

SUMMARY

The primary purpose of this position is to assist with maintaining SBCHC clinics and building sites by fulfilling work orders within specified time frames. The Assistant Maintenance Technician receives assignments that include but are not limited to: carpentry, painting, electric, plumbing, drywall, and ground maintenance. This position periodically serves as a worker for evenings, weekends, and holidays. All activities must support SBCHC’s mission, strategic goals, and objectives.

QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma, GED or vocational/technical training equivalent required
A minimum of one (1) year of experience in construction or building maintenance required
Valid Texas Driver’s License and personal automobile insurance
Ability to successfully operate a variety of applicable hand-held tools and devices and to learn the use of others as required by assigned tasks
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assists in the completion of a wide range of building repairs and maintenance functions in response to work orders submitted by SBCHC staff members. Completes all assigned work in a timely manner.

Assists in the performance of routine preventative maintenance to ensure that building systems operate efficiently and the physical condition of the building does not deteriorate; inspects, diagnoses, and repairs issues in a timely and effective manner.

Assists with repairs to walls, roofs, woodwork, floors, cabinets, interior and exterior doors, and other fixtures.

Assists in repair or replacement of wiring and parts for electrical switches, outlets, light fixtures, breaker switches, and fuses.

Assists in repair or replacement of plumbing fixtures and fittings, including but not limited to: drains, faucets, sewer lines, toilets, sinks, and water heaters.

Assists with installation and maintenance of HVAC equipment.

Assists in repair, adjustment, or installation of various appliances and equipment, including but not limited to: water heaters, refrigerators, air conditioners, and furnaces.

Assists in repair and replacement of grout, bathroom tile, and seals to maintain water‑tight enclosure.

Uses rollers, brushes, and related equipment to apply the required number of coats of paint, enamel, varnish, lacquer, or other protective or decorative material on a variety of surfaces.

Assists in building inspections; paints and repairs as needed.

Assists with renovations, build outs, and expansions in a timely manner.

Completes appropriate work order documentation for all maintenance tasks and maintains files of completed work orders.

Performs periodic lawn service and other outdoor landscaping grounds service as needed.

Performs work order service during evenings and weekends on a scheduled or rotating basis; maintains the ability to complete work orders in accordance with established procedures.

Instructs new employees and helpers in the method of maintenance and repair.

Maintains knowledge of SBCHC facilities and equipment and basic principles of building maintenance.

Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with co-workers, vendors, consultants, contractors, residents, HUD, community partners, and local, state and federal officials.

Performs other related duties as assigned.
