Position Overview
The Houston Parks and Recreation Department is seeking an Electrician to join its Facilities Management & Development team. This position is located at 6200 Wheeler St, Houston, TX. Work hours are Monday‑Friday 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Description Of Duties / Essential Functions- Troubleshoot, maintain, manage, and upgrade existing electrical installation systems.
- Research and analyze causes of failures.
- Repair, replace, and install new equipment components and related hardware to maximize function.
- Provide preventive maintenance to ensure safe and clean operating conditions.
- Prepare and update records, logs, and reports.
- Respond to emergency calls for various types of electrical failures and shutdowns.
- Research technical product specifications.
- Assist in inventory control management of electrical parts and components to maintain proper supply levels.
- Inspect field locations to determine placement of electrical components for installation.
The position requires considerable physical exertion, including climbing ladders, lifting heavy objects (up to 80 pounds) frequently, and assuming awkward positions for long periods. Employees may be exposed to extreme temperatures, air pollution, noise, chemical gases, and substances, and may experience short‑term disabling conditions such as broken bones or temporary vision/hearing loss.
Minimum RequirementsEducation Requirements High school degree or GED plus successful completion of an apprentice electrician program approved by the Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training or equivalent recognized by the Electrical Safety and Licensing Advisory Board.
Experience Requirements No journeyman level experience required.
License Requirements Valid State of Texas Journeyman Electrician License, valid Texas driver’s license, and compliance with City of Houston driving policy. A valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) may be required.
Preferences Preference for eligible veteran applicants who possess the necessary qualifications. Highly preferred attributes include the ability to interpret blueprints, sketches, drawings, design specifications, City Electrical Code, NEC, and experience in high and low voltage distribution systems. Knowledge of operating heavy equipment such as high‑reach bucket truck, derrick digger, ditching machines. Successful applicant must obtain a CDL within six months of employment.

Salary InformationPay Grade 18. Salary based on qualifications and comparable employee pay rates.
