Position Overview
Responsible for the general construction work required for construction, renovation, repair, and maintenance in designated County buildings.
Job Duties- Performs all duties required to provide general construction at various county facilities, including painting, installing framing, fixtures, walls, ceilings, floors, doors, trim, and repairing walls, doors, ceilings, and floors.
- Plans and estimates material requirements for a specific project or task for general construction.
- May be required to drive a personal or county vehicle to various work sites.
- Maintains a courteous, helpful behavior at all times.
- May assist less experienced co‑workers and perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
- Five (5) years of hands‑on experience in various aspects of building construction.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions in a thorough, neat, and timely manner.
- Skilled in reading and building from construction drawings.
- A valid Texas Driver’s License to conduct County business.
- Basic knowledge of tools, equipment, and materials, and skilled in the care and use of carpentry tools.
- Maintains a courteous, helpful behavior at all times.
- Self‑starter possessing interpersonal skills required to be a productive team player.
- Ability to receive CJIS clearance, pass a security check, and a drug test, as required. This position is safety‑sensitive and will be subject to random drug and alcohol screening.
- Participate in the classification process of departmental staff based on MEF responsibilities.
- Be available for temporary deployment to an alternative work location, role, or telework assignment during emergency events.
- Confirm work assignments with their supervisor prior to reporting to any worksite during such events.
- Remain flexible in assuming alternative duties as directed to support County operations continuity.
- Position Type:
Full‑Time | Regular | 40 hours per week. - Subject to early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and holidays at times, depending upon the project or workload.
Commensurate experience, based on 26 pay periods.
Physical Demands and Environmental ExposureMost assignments will be performed in an office, meeting, or operations command center environment, but some field work may be required. May be required to work extended work hours during activation of disaster recovery operations for an unspecified length of time (varies based on the extent of the event). This position requires bending, stooping, and lifting to 25 lbs., frequent walking, standing, sitting, reaching, and ascending/descending stairs.
