Description

The Heavy Equipment Operator will be responsible for operating and managing heavy machinery for landfill gas construction projects. This role includes excavating trenches for pipelines, handling trench cuttings, laying pipe sections, and performing back filling and grading tasks. The ideal candidate will ensure compliance with project specifications and safety protocols while maintaining equipment and collaborating with team members to achieve project goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate heavy equipment such as excavators, backhoes, and bulldozers to excavate trenches for landfill gas pipelines.
  • Haul away trench cuttings and manage the removal of excess material from the worksite.
  • Lay pipe sections accurately according to project specifications and connect pipeline components as required.
  • Backfill trenches after pipe installation, ensuring proper compaction of soil to prevent settling or instability.
  • Grade surfaces to meet project specifications, ensuring a smooth and level finish for subsequent construction activities.
  • Compact soil to achieve the desired density and stability around pipelines and other structures.
  • Clear vegetation and debris from the construction site to prepare for excavation and installation activities.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to environmental and safety regulations.
  • Follow all safety protocols and industry regulations to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Conduct pre-operation safety checks on equipment and perform routine maintenance to prevent malfunctions.
  • Ensure that all tasks are completed in accordance with project specifications and regulatory requirements.
Requirements
  • Must be 19 years of age or older.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license in good standing.
  • Proven experience operating heavy equipment in drilling or construction environments.
  • Strong understanding of safety protocols and industry regulations related to heavy equipment and drilling operations.
  • Must be willing to travel 3-6 weeks at a time, with one week spent at home each month, and comfortable with lodging in hotels.
  • Must be capable of walking long distances, working extended hours, and lifting/carrying over 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand, lift, push, pull, bend and twist.
  • Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in safely operating vehicles and equipment, including pickup trucks and smaller machinery.
  • The ability to work safely in extreme hot and cold weather conditions.
  • Having previous experience in Landfill or Construction industries is preferred.
  • Fluency in multiple languages is desirable.
  • Possession of specialized certifications or training is considered a bonus.
