This is a Houston Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier I Level.
Description of Duties / Essential FunctionsInstalls, calibrates, maintains, and repairs disinfection and de‑chlorination instruments, equipment, chemical lines, switch‑over valves, flow and level meters, controllers, analyzers, chart recorders, chemical pumps, or other instrumentation as required by the department's operational program. Inspects, tests, and evaluates instruments and equipment for proper operation or faulty maintenance. Maintains records of work orders, parts, equipment requisitions, and pricing. Performs other technical repairs, installations, and maintenance as directed;
may perform some non‑technical assignments.
The position involves considerable physical exertion, such as regular climbing of ladders, frequent lifting of heavy objects (up to 80 pounds), and/or assuming awkward positions for long periods. The employee may be routinely exposed to significant heat, cold, moisture, and air pollution. Periodic exposure to chemical substances and minor physical trauma such as cuts, bruises, and minor burns may occur.
Minimum Requirements Educational RequirementsSpecialized training in principles, procedures, practices, routines, or techniques in a specific area or trade acquired through up to 18 months of education or training beyond high school level. Vocational competence in operating mechanical or electronic equipment may be required.
Experience RequirementsOne (1) year of experience in the repair, calibration, and installation of instruments and equipment.
License RequirementsNone.
Preferences- Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position.
Factors used to determine the salary include the candidate’s qualifications and pay rates of other employees in this classification. Pay Grade 14.
Safety Impact PositionYes; this position is subject to random drug testing, and for promotional positions, a candidate must pass an assignment drug test.
