Senior Maintenance Technician - Weekend Nights

The Research and Administrative Facilities (RAF) department manages the operations and maintenance of research and administrative buildings across the Bastrop and Smithville campuses. The Junior Maintenance Technician role supports all Houston campuses and properties by performing routine maintenance and repairs on mechanical equipment, systems, buildings, and grounds.

• Perform inspections, troubleshooting, and routine and preventative maintenance on equipment, buildings, and utility systems using specialized craft skills.
• Maintain records of materials, jobs, and relevant information.
• Investigate outages and coordinate work with other technicians.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for vendors.
• Prepare and submit status reports.
• Participate in process improvement initiatives.
• Record and log temperatures on chillers, heaters, and A/C heating exchangers every two hours.
• Respond to critical alarms for laboratory equipment across the Main Campus Research & Education facilities.
• Perform preventive maintenance on Central Plant equipment (chilled water, pumps, compressors, etc.).
• Record and log temperatures and pressures of all utility equipment servicing Research and Education Facilities.
• Record and log vacuum pressure for laboratory use and conduct hardness/chemical tests on water systems as required.
• Provide lead support to the Utilities Operations Superintendent and/or Supervisor during absences.
• Coordinate work performed by other shops requiring an understanding of overall physical plant operations.
• Participate in on‑call duties and maintain alertness during emergency conditions.

• At least a 3rd Grade Stationary Engineer license issued by the City of Houston.
• Five years of experience in one or more crafts (plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, HVAC, instrumentation).
• Strong troubleshooting and preventive maintenance skills.
• Ability to keep meticulous records and log data.
• Excellent communication and vendor management abilities.

• Required:
  
  High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• Preferred:
  Associate’s Degree in Technical or Trade School.

• Preferred: 3rd Grade Stationary Engineer License.
