Maintenance Technician / Mechanic, Installation Technician
The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for the installation, alignment, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of rotating and stationary mechanical equipment supporting bulk liquid storage and transfer operations. This position ensures the safe, reliable, and compliant operation of pumps, motors, compressors, valves, piping systems, and loading equipment within a safety-sensitive oil terminal environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Perform all work in compliance with Terminal policies, local regulations, and applicable safety and environmental standards.
- Adhere to Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space, hot work, and hazardous energy control procedures.
- Install, assemble, dismantle, and relocate pumps, motors, gearboxes, compressors, valves, and associated mechanical systems.
- Replace bearings, seals, couplings, and other mechanical components.
- Maintain centrifugal and positive displacement pumps used in product transfer operations.
- Assist with tank components, piping repairs, flange assembly, gasket replacement, and minor mechanical modifications.
- Safely operate hoisting and rigging equipment to position and install machinery.
- Execute preventative and corrective maintenance activities and support outage work.
- Document completed work, maintain accurate maintenance records, and assist in planning upcoming maintenance tasks.
- Participate in safety meetings and Emergency Response Team (ERT) activities including oil spill response.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment and report incidents or unsafe conditions immediately.
- Work shifts, overtime, weekends, and emergency call‑outs as required.
- High school diploma or approved equivalent.
- Additional trades an asset.
- Strong reading, writing, communication and math skills including the ability to read procedures and perform arithmetic.
- Must be able to multi‑task and manage multiple projects.
- Knowledge of Isometrics, P&’s, blueprints, diagrams, schematic drawings and manuals to assist in determining work procedures for completing tasks and projects.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in the Oil/Gas Industry is preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of equipment and tools.
- Knowledge of petroleum products and industry terminology.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Must be able to obtain a TWIC card.
Working conditions vary and employees may encounter vibration, noise, odors, extremes in temperature and wind, varied surfaces, sharp edges, varied lighting, and confined and congested areas. Employees are occasionally exposed to petroleum‑based products such as crude oil, gasoline, diesel fuel, fuel oil and grease as well as an array of other petroleum products and by‑products.
Physical Demands- Ability to stand, sit, walk, and maintain balance for extensive periods of time.
- Ability to frequently lift up to 40 lbs. from floor to above shoulder and horizontally and carry objects up to 100 feet. Occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks; climb ladders and stairs, stretch, turn, twist, reach, bend, crouch, squat, kneel, and stoop for extensive periods of time.
- Ability to operate crane and other equipment necessary for loading and unloading product.
- Ability to operate all types of company vehicles.
