Pipefitter/Ironworker – Austin Industrial (Houston, TX)

Responsibilities- Cut, thread, and hammer pipe to specifications using saws, cutting torches, pipe threaders and benders.
- Attach pipes to walls, structures and fixtures (e.g., radiators, tanks) using brackets, clamps, or welding equipment.
- Measure and mark pipes for cutting and threading.
- Plan pipe system layout, installation or repair according to specifications.
- Choose pipe sizes, types and related materials such as supports, hangers, and hydraulic cylinders.
- Modify, clean and maintain pipe systems, units, fittings and related equipment using hand and power tools.
- Install automatic controls to regulate pipe systems.
- Operate valves to shut off steam, water or other gases/liquids using valve keys or wrenches.
- Remove and replace worn components.
- Inspect work sites for obstructions and ensure holes do not weaken structures.
- Operate motorized pumps to remove water from flooded areas.
- Dip nonferrous piping in molten tin/lead mix to create coatings that prevent erosion.
- Read blueprints and select required materials for construction.
- Set up hoisting equipment for raising and placing structural steel members.
- Fasten steel members to hoist cable using chain, cable or rope.
- Guide lifted structures into position and align rivet holes, then drive drift pins.
- Assist in lifting, positioning and securing materials during installation.
- Verify vertical and horizontal alignment using plumb bob and level; bolt and temporarily secure members until permanently riveted, bolted or welded.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States; this position does not support visa sponsorship.
- Experience:
4 years of journeyman‑level pipe fitting or iron working. - Certifications:
NCCER, TWIC Card, Valid Driver’s License.
The job requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling. The employee must often lift or move up to 25 pounds and may lift or move up to 50 pounds. Close, distance, peripheral vision and depth perception are required.
