Brief
Position Summary:
Performs advanced (senior-level) construction, restoration, renovation, and maintenance work. Work involves building repair, renovation, restoration, and alteration. Work also includes installation, maintenance, and repair work of plumbing systems and components. Work involves coordinating the assembly, installation, or repair of pipes, fittings, or fixtures of heating, water, and/or draining systems. May serve as a lead worker providing directions to others. Reports to Maintenance Supervisor.
Works under minimal supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Work Hours:
Tuesday – Friday, 10-hour days, 40 hours/week
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
Coordinates and performs pipe cutting, welding, preassembly, and/or installation of plumbing systems or components. Coordinates and prepares work orders, reports, and records. Performs troubleshooting and preventative maintenance tasks on plumbing and structural equipment. Assembles pipe sections, tubing, or fittings using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement, plastic solvent, caulking, or soldering, brazing, or welding equipment. Installs pipe assemblies, fittings, valves, appliances, or fixtures.
Locates and marks the position of pipe connections, passage holes, or fixtures in structures. Cuts, threads, or bends pipe to required angles using hand or power tools or machines. Reviews blueprints, building codes, or specifications to determine work details or procedures. Recommends and installs energy-efficient equipment and alternative water sources. Makes estimates related to time, materials, for repair jobs. Inspect structures to assess material or equipment needed.
Welds small pipes or special piping using specialized techniques, equipment, or materials. Conducts annual inspections and testing on backflows. May coordinate or schedule building repair, renovation, or restoration projects. Performs repairs and renovations to modernize a building or adapt it to new uses while retaining original appearance. May serve as a lead worker providing directions to others. May train others.
Attends work regularly and observes approved work hours in accordance with agency state employee policies and procedures handbook. May be required to perform duty in support of national emergencies, disasters and other missions, to include holidays and weekends. Performs related work as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent (GED) is required.
Experience:
Four (4) years of experience in construction management or building maintenance and repair work is required. Experience in using Microsoft Office applications including Word and Excel is required.
Preferred Experience:
Experience in the testing and repair of various size backflows and valves is preferred.
Registration, Certification or Licensure: A valid driver's license is required. The ability to obtain a Texas Driver's License will be required within the first 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident. A satisfactory driving record is required for operating state or personal vehicles to conduct agency business. Must be able to obtain backflow license/Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester (BPAT) license within 90 days of being hired (Classes provided).
Other Requirements:
Background Investigation. Selected candidate must pass federal security background investigation. The process includes a National Agency Check and Inquiry (NACI) and fingerprinting.
