SUMMARY

The primary purpose of the Senior Maintenance Technician position is to perform skilled sub‑journeyman‑level work in a designated craft. It impacts routine maintenance and repairs of all mechanical equipment, systems, buildings, and grounds.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Under limited supervision, perform inspections, troubleshooting, and routine and preventative maintenance on various equipment, buildings, and utility systems using one or more craft trade skills.
  • Maintain records of materials, jobs, and other pertinent information; investigate outages; coordinate and prioritize the workflow of other technicians.
  • Serve as a point of contact for vendors, prepare and submit reports, and participate in process improvement initiatives.
  • Precept staff as needed.
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
  • Maintain facility appearance, functionality, and safety.
  • Investigate outages and inspect contracted work to ensure repairs and installations comply with institutional guidelines.
  • Record and log temperatures on chillers, heaters, and all related equipment every two hours.
  • Respond to all critical alarms for laboratory equipment in all Main Campus Research & Education facilities.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on Central Plant equipment (Chilled Water, Pumps, Compressors, Hot Water Pumps, Domestic Water Pumps, etc.).
  • Record and log temperatures and pressures of all utility equipment servicing Research and Education Facilities on the Main Campus.
  • Record and log vacuum pressure for laboratory use as required each shift.
  • Conduct hardness tests on water softeners and chemical tests on chill water and hot water closed‑loop systems for corrosion protection.
  • Apply chemical treatment to closed‑loop systems.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives to reduce outside contractor costs.
  • Provide lead support to the Utilities Operations Superintendent and/or Supervisor, Physical Plant's Superintendent in their absence.
  • Coordinate work performed by other shops when requested by Physical Plant Utilities Operations personnel.
  • Be part of an on‑call group; when assigned, be available and respond in accordance with policy.
EDUCATION
  • Required:

    High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Preferred:
    Associate's Degree Technical or Trade school
WORK EXPERIENCE
  • Required:

    Five years experience in one or more crafts (plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, HVAC, instrumentation).
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
  • Preferred:
    Stationary Engineer License 3rd Grade
Salary

The salary range is $69,00 - $86,000 - $103,000

Work Schedule

Wednesday 9PM-7:30AM, Thursday 9PM-7:30AM, Friday 11PM-7:30AM, Saturday 7PM-7:30AM
