Mechanical Technician – Conveyor Field Installation
This role focuses on installing, commissioning, and maintaining conveyor equipment and systems at customer sites across the United States. You will work extensively in the field, traveling frequently and spending extended periods on-site to ensure conveyor installations meet project specifications, safety regulations, and quality standards. The position combines hands-on mechanical and basic electrical work with troubleshooting, documentation, and close collaboration with internal teams and customers.
Responsibilities:
- Install and commission conveyor equipment and systems, including both mechanical and electrical components, at customer facilities.
- Ensure all installations comply with project specifications, safety regulations, and quality standards.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to the installation, operation, and maintenance of conveyor systems.
- Perform mechanical repairs and preventive maintenance on conveyor equipment, including work with pneumatics and hydraulics.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, schematics, specifications, and procedure manuals to guide installation and repair activities.
- Use basic hand and power tools, including those associated with conveyor installation, to assemble, adjust, and secure equipment.
- Conduct inspections of installed systems to verify proper operation and identify any required corrective actions.
- Communicate project status, risks, and issues clearly and promptly to the project manager and internal teams.
- Collaborate with engineering, sales, customer service, and other departments to support successful project execution and customer satisfaction.
- Maintain accurate project documentation, including installation records, service reports, and other required documentation.
- Operate ladders, forklifts, and scissor lifts safely and in accordance with OSHA and site-specific safety standards.
- Follow all Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S) requirements and site rules at customer facilities, with a strong emphasis on safe work practices.
- Travel extensively to client sites, remaining on the road for extended periods (typically 30–60 days at a time) based on field service needs.
- Use mobile devices such as smartphones, tablets, or laptops to access documentation, complete reports, and communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor to support successful project completion and ongoing service.
Essential
Skills:
- Proven experience with mechanical assembly, machine assembly, and mechanical aptitude in an industrial or field environment.
- Hands-on experience with conveyor installation and conveyor systems, including mechanical and basic electrical components.
- Ability to perform mechanical repairs and preventive maintenance on conveyor equipment.
- Experience working with pneumatics and hydraulics in an installation or maintenance setting.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, schematics, specifications, and procedure manuals.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills for diagnosing and resolving mechanical and basic electrical issues.
- Ability to work independently in the field as well as effectively within a team environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with internal teams and external customers.
- Experience using basic hand and power tools associated with mechanical and conveyor installation.
- Physical ability to work in a field installation environment, including standing, walking, reaching, climbing ladders, and regularly lifting and carrying at least 50 pounds.
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively within the United States, including being on the road for 30–60 days at a time and traveling based on field service needs.
- Fluency in reading and writing English, with the ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products for documentation, reporting, and communication.
- Technical ability to use mobile devices such as smartphones, tablets, or laptops to access information and complete work tasks.
