Sheet metal Mechanic Job Summary
We are currently seeking a Sheet metal Mechanic with at least 4 years of experience in sheet metal fabrication or related trades such as joinery, shipfitting, or carpentry. This role requires hands‑on experience with sheet metal machinery, blueprint reading, and installation of various metal components and systems in a shipyard or heavy industrial environment.
Responsibilities- Fabricate and install a wide range of sheet metal components, including ductwork, vent systems, engine exhaust systems, metal containers, and instrument panels.
- Set up and operate sheet metal machinery such as brakes, shears, rollers, and other forming tools.
- Interpret and work from blueprints, engineering drawings, and metric/standard specifications.
- Use shop math and layout skills to plan and execute projects with precision.
- Perform metal fitting, cutting, and assembly to meet tight tolerances and structural specifications.
- Work safely and efficiently in a dynamic industrial or shipyard environment, including at heights and in confined spaces.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work area in clean and functional condition.
- Collaborate with other trades and departments to ensure quality and on‑time project completion.
- Minimum of 4 years of verifiable sheet metal or related trade experience (joiner, ship fitter, carpenter, etc.).
- Experience operating various sheet metal machines such as brakes, shears, and forming equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints and technical documents.
- Familiarity with both standard and metric measurement systems.
- Must be able to pass a hands‑on sheet metal skills assessment test.
- Willingness to work multiple shifts as required by production needs.
- Physically capable of working in demanding environments, including confined spaces and varying weather conditions.
- U.S. Citizenship or authorization to work in the U.S. (due to contract requirements).
