Diesel Mechanic Trainee Entry Level

Position Description

Ryder is hiring a Diesel Technician Trainee in Houston, Texas. The role offers weekly pay, excellent benefits, and a career path to become a Ryder Diesel Mechanic Technician.

• Hourly Pay: $22.00 per hour
• Certification Bonus: $100 for each new ASE certification, up to $700
• Quarterly Bonus: up to $500 every quarter, four times per year
• Schedule:
  
  Sunday through Thursday, 2:30 pm – 10:30 pm (Second Shift)

• No experience required; on‑the‑job paid training

• Move, wash, and detail heavy‑duty vehicles; fuel diesel, natural gas, and hybrid vehicles; record fuel activity and maintain inventories.
• Perform multi‑point inspections on inbound units following company procedures.
• Maintain fuel island area to Six Sigma standards; perform minor facility maintenance as assigned.
• Attend and complete all Technician Training Development Program requirements and assessments, including:
  • Service Island Training – multi‑point inspection, vehicle fueling and washing, environmental safety & spill response, safe driving, 6S organization.
  • Technician I Training – preventive maintenance, tire and wheel, service bay tools.
  • Technician II Training – HD electrical, air and hydraulic brakes.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
• Zero to one year of mechanical experience with diesel engines (preferred).
• Minimum age 18.
• Proficiency in written and verbal English.
• Demonstrated customer service and technical aptitude.
• Ability to troubleshoot, work independently and as part of a team, and represent Ryder professionally.
• Time‑management and priority‑setting skills.
• Track record of performance and good attendance.
• Strong personal accountability and results orientation.
• Basic computer and Microsoft Office skills.
• Beginner knowledge of machines, tools, shop management systems (preferred).
• Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A (preferred).
• DOT safety regulated position; regulated tech.
• Safety‑sensitive position; compliance with state law regarding age and working hours.

• Obtain a CDL within 6 months of hire.
• Pass a Ryder drug test, DOT physical, Ryder road test, and background check covering the last three years.

Some positions require additional screening, including employment and education verification, motor‑vehicle records checks, a road test, and/or customer‑specific background or badging requirements.
