Preservation Technician is responsible for the inspection, preservation, maintenance, and protection of natural gas compressors, engines, and associated equipment during assembly, storage, and periods of inactivity. This role ensures that equipment remains in optimal condition preventing corrosion, contamination, and mechanical degradation before units going into storage or shipping. Technician must adhere to all Health & Safety Policies.
Principle Responsibilities and Duties- Perform preservation procedures on natural gas compressors, gas engines, and related mechanical systems prior to storage or transport.
- Apply preservation methods including fogging, oil circulation, desiccant installation, vapor corrosion inhibitors (VpCI), and protective coatings.
- Install protective coverings, sealing systems, and environmental controls to prevent moisture, debris, and contamination.
- Conduct inspections of compressors, engines, piping, and auxiliary systems to verify preservation integrity.
- Maintain and document preservation records, inspection reports, and maintenance logs.
- May need to perform periodic re-preservation, rotation of engines, and system checks to maintain equipment readiness.
- Identify and report signs of corrosion, leaks, mechanical damage, or environmental exposure risks.
- Follow company safety procedures and comply with OSHA and industry safety standards.
- Work with field technicians, mechanics, and engineering teams to ensure proper equipment handling and preservation standards.
- 3 years minimum in industry experience
- Able to work independently.
- Able to work flexible hours.
- Experience working with natural gas compressors, gas engines, or rotating mechanical equipment.
- Knowledge of equipment preservation techniques and corrosion prevention methods.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, mechanical drawings, and maintenance procedures.
- Familiarity with lubrication systems, sealing methods, and mechanical components.
- Strong attention to detail and documentation skills.
- Ability to work in field environments, shop settings, and outdoor conditions.
- Ability to lift and move equipment components when necessary.
- Basic mechanical troubleshooting skills.
- Previous work in oil & gas, compression services, or heavy industrial maintenance.
- Forklift, rigging, crane experience.
- Work safely and present a leadership attitude toward safe work practices. Be an example.
Industrial environment. This role will require a large amount of standing, bending, squatting, lifting, and walking on a constant basis. May be required to lift, carry, and move up to 50 lbs. Many tasks have high degrees of time sensitivity.
