Job Description
Our client is seeking two Equipment Operators to support landfill gas collection system installation projects across the United States. This role is ideal for experienced excavator operators with utility installation, pipe installation, or earthwork experience who are comfortable traveling extensively and working in a hands‑on environment.
Operators will primarily be responsible for excavating, trenching, installing piping systems, and back filling while ensuring pipe is installed on grade. Team members should be willing to assist with additional field tasks as needed and work as part of a small, collaborative crew.
Reports to the Project Manager or Project Superintendent.
- May be assisted by Laborers, Fusion/Field Technicians, Foreman, or Superintendents.
- Operate one or several types of power construction equipment, such as graders, rough‑terrain extended boom forklifts, bulldozers, scrapers, cranes, backhoe, shovels, excavators, dump trucks, tractors, front‑end loader, and graded earth.
- Assist in drilling projects by moving and lifting materials into drilled gas wells for well completion.
- Assist in hand shoveling when excavating near utilities or sensitive areas.
- Follow Codes of Safe Work Practices for Heavy Equipment Operation, Trenching, Back filling Operations and Well Construction.
- Report any malfunctions or equipment problems to the Project Superintendent/Manager.
- Check equipment prior to operation to make sure proper fuels, oils, lubricants and hydraulic fluids are full.
- Interact with other SCS‑FS personnel and/or subcontractors in a professional manner.
- Operate excavators and other heavy equipment in support of landfill gas system installation projects.
- Excavate trenches and backfill according to project specifications.
- Install HDPE piping and utility systems while maintaining proper grade and slope requirements.
- Perform daily equipment inspections and ensure equipment is operating safely.
- Assist with installation of gas collection wells, wellheads, pumps, labels, and related system components.
- Support pipe installation, material handling, and other construction activities as needed.
- Participate in daily safety meetings and maintain adherence to all site safety requirements.
- Work effectively within small field crews to complete projects on schedule.

3‑8 years of equipment operation experience specifically landfill, landfill gas, or utilities excavation / installation.
- Experience installing pipe on a grade / slope
- Experience putting in pipe / ditch digging
- Comprehensive knowledge of equipment practices.
- Ability to read and understand equipment operational manuals.
- HDPE piping installation experience
- 40 Hour Health and Safety, and Trenching Excavation Safety training or ability to obtain this
- Heavy equipment operating experience, particularly excavators.
- Experience with utility excavation, trenching, and pipe installation.
- Ability to read and maintain grade during excavation and pipe placement.
- Willingness to travel extensively throughout the United States.
- Ability to work 55‑60 hour weeks in an outdoor construction environment.
- Osha certification
