Job Summary

This position is responsible for the preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and ongoing performance of refrigeration, HVAC, and generator systems at Gulf Coast Blood's headquarters and satellite locations. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in ensuring reliable facility operations, protecting temperature-sensitive products, and maintaining a safe, comfortable, and compliant environment for employees, donors, and patients.
An EPA Refrigerant Handling Certification is required upon employment. Candidates must also obtain an EPA Universal Refrigeration Certification within ninety (90) days of employment.

Essential Responsibilities:

Refrigeration & HVAC Systems Maintenance (35%)

  • Apply advanced technical expertise to diagnose, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair commercial refrigeration, air conditioning, electrical, and mechanical systems.

  • Maintain and repair refrigerated laboratory equipment, including Ultra-Low Temperature Freezers, Freezers, Refrigerators, Walk-In Coolers/Freezers, Ice Machines, Centrifuges, Water Baths, and Incubators.

  • Inspect refrigeration systems and equipment daily to ensure proper operation and regulatory compliance.

  • Temperature monitoring and alarm system

Preventive Maintenance & Emergency Systems (30%)

  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance activities to maximize equipment reliability and minimize downtime.

  • Check, maintain, test, and monitor emergency generators and other critical facility equipment to ensure uninterrupted operations.

  • Respond promptly to equipment malfunctions and emergency maintenance situations.

  • Perform temperature alarm testing, troubleshooting, and corrective actions as needed.

Work Order Management & Regulatory Compliance (20%)

  • Respond to and complete scheduled and unscheduled maintenance requests in a timely and professional manner.

  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, service logs, work orders, and compliance documentation.

  • Ensure all maintenance activities meet applicable safety standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies.

Facility Operations & General Building Services (15%)

  • Perform general building maintenance and facility support services related to office, laboratory, and operational spaces.

  • Maintain an accurate and up-to-date equipment inventory database for critical refrigerated laboratory equipment and incubators.

  • Support facility improvement projects and contribute to maintaining a safe, clean, and efficient work environment.

Required Qualifications

Education:
  • High school diploma or GED required.

Experience
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in commercial HVAC, air conditioning, and refrigeration maintenance and repair required.

  • Demonstrated electrical and mechanical troubleshooting experience required.

  • Commercial walk-in refrigerator maintenance and repair experience required.

  • Working knowledge of general building maintenance practices, including basic painting, sheetrock repair, and minor carpentry.

  • Experience performing preventive maintenance, equipment diagnostics, and emergency repairs in a commercial or healthcare environment preferred.

Certifications / Licenses
  • Valid Texas Driver's License (TDL) with an acceptable driving record required.

  • Must meet the organization's Vehicle Safety Program requirements.

  • EPA Refrigerant Handling Certification required upon employment.

  • EPA Universal Refrigeration Certification must be obtained within ninety (90) days of employment.

Travel:
  • Occasional travel for East Texas region and Brazos Valley locations, averaging once every other month.

Schedule:
  • Monday - Friday, 8:00am-4:00pm.
