Salvage Yard Tech - USTP Houston

Fundamental knowledge of how to handle tools of truck mechanic’s trade. Some training in the mechanical trade through high school programs, technical schools, or working experience. Must be able to assist journeymen mechanics and mechanics in performing the various repairs to truck components and equipment.

II. ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS AND PRINCIPAL

ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. Learning to use all tools of the trade along with maintaining some.
2. Learning to read and understand blueprints and technical publications, including service manuals and service bulletins.
3. Learning the various truck components and parts and their functions.
4. Learning the proper procedures to write descriptions of work preferred.
5. Learning to use the computer as needed to punch on and off computerized repair order system.
6. Learning times required to perform each repair and striving to acquire the knowledge and ability to meet these time standards.
7. Learning to practice safety in all job functions.
8. Learning to work productively with the Journeymen Mechanics and Mechanics.
9. Learning the Bruckner policies and procedures implied and expressed and striving to implement the same.
10. Learning to work with supervisors and follow their instructions.

III. EXAMPLES OF SKILLS NEEDED
1. Steam Clean
2. P.D.I. Inspections
3. Used Truck Inspections
4. Pull parts for customers
5. Remove major drivetrain components…engine, transmissions etc.
6. Cut salvage trucks for scrap metal
7. Remove oil and diesel from salvage trucks
8. Help with organization and cleaning of salvage yard
9. Remove daily trash from shops
10. Occasionally helping mechanics with shop workIV. POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Education & Experience:

1. High School Diploma desired.
2. Must possess and use good interpersonal skills to interact well with customers, vendors, and co-workers in a positive and constructive manner.
3. Some training or experience in the mechanic trade.
4. Must be able to read and write in English and understand computer generated reports, office reports, invoices, etc.
5. Must be able to operate various computer diagnostic devices, laptops, and tablets.
6. Forklift experience is preferred but can be taught after employee has been hired.
7. Cutting torch experience.
8. Will need a starter set of tools and boxes and will be willing to acquire needed tools as time and experience dictate.
9. Must be able to take instructions from mechanics and supervisors.
10. Must be flexible to work overtime when necessary and maintain a professional appearance.

V. Marginal Job Tasks
1. Must be willing to do other miscellaneous tasks as required by supervisors such as cleaning up, steam clean, salvage yard, etc. as related to the business.

1. Involves essential ability to climb around in the engine compartment, frame areas, and underneath trucks to properly inspect and diagnose all types of problems and repairs.
2. Must be able to pass a physical and drug and alcohol screens during pre-employment screening, randomly and/or as requested throughout employment.
3. Must be able to lift 50 pounds to the waist and 25 pounds to the shoulder.

VIII. Work Conditions:

The working environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Due to the urgency of some repairs, this position contains some level of stress and requires the ability to handle multiple tasks smoothly. Requires regular, predictable attendance.
