Travel: Approximately 80% - domestic and international

A leading manufacturer of advanced modular mechanical and electrical systems is seeking a hands-on, adventure-ready Field Service Technician.
This position is ideal for an experienced technician who enjoys solving complex equipment problems, working independently, and traveling extensively. You will commission, troubleshoot, repair, and retrofit packaged systems used in data centers, power generation, and commercial and industrial utility applications
What You'll Do- Direct and document the field commissioning of mechanical and electrical systems
- Perform equipment startup, troubleshooting, repair, retrofit, and preventive maintenance
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, controls, communications, and computer-related issues
- Start up and service vertical turbine pumps and split-coupled inline pumps
- Start up and service cooling towers, including Evapco, Kelvion, Marley, and SPX equipment
- Start up and service centrifugal chillers, including Trane, York, McQuay, and Smardt equipment
- Start up and troubleshoot Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), including Eaton and Allen-Bradley
- Install and repair power-distribution systems, electric motors, Motor Control Centers (MCCs), and variable-speed drives
- Read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and control documentation
- Create accurate and legible red-line drawings for project records
- Compile Operations and Maintenance (O&M) information
- Assist with final Installation, Operation, and Maintenance (IOM) manuals
- Support Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) activities
- Perform or oversee equipment quality checks
- Coordinate project handoffs from construction to commissioning and service
- Work closely with project managers, engineers, production personnel, quality teams, service technicians, customers, and consulting engineers
- Provide field feedback to support product and process improvements
- Assist with equipment assembly and technical training when needed
- Significant field experience involving construction support, equipment startup, repair, and maintenance
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills
- Experience commissioning mechanical equipment and associated electrical systems
- Ability to read drawings, wiring diagrams, and schematics
- Exposure to at least one Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) or building-controls platform
- Experience with pumps, cooling towers, chillers, motors, power distribution, or Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)
- Familiarity with American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), or other applicable codes and standards
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Microsoft Project
- Ability to work independently at customer job sites
- Willingness and ability to travel approximately 80% to domestic and international locations
- Ability to work safely in active construction and field-service environments
- Safe driving record
- Ability to obtain required safety certifications, including Occupational Safety and Health Administration 10-Hour Construction (OSHA 10) and National Fire Protection Association 70E (NFPA 70E)
- Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) trade-school education or apprenticeship training
- Military technical training or equivalent hands-on technical experience may be considered in place of trade-school certification
This position requires frequent travel and work in construction and customer-site environments. The technician must be able to sit, stand, stoop, bend, crouch, use hand tools, perform repetitive motions, and occasionally exert up to 10 pounds of force.
The role also requires sufficient vision - including color and depth perception to inspect equipment, interpret technical information, and safely perform field assignments.
