Position Overview:
Responsible for the general mechanical work required for the installation, maintenance, and repair of all plumbing equipment and systems for the efficient operation of designated County building(s).
Job Duties:- Performs all duties required to provide efficient plumbing operations at various county facilities, such as estimating, installing, and repairing pipes and fittings, installing fixtures, repairing commodes, sinks, faucets, and unstopping drain lines.
- May be required to drive personal or county vehicle to various work sites.
- Assists and trains less experienced co-workers and performs other duties as assigned.
- Will be required to be on-call after hours.

Education:- High school diploma, G.E.D. equivalency.
- Four (4) years of hands-on experience repairing plumbing equipment and systems in commercial/industrial settings.
- Current Journeyman Plumber License.
- Valid driver's license (Texas upon hire) and a good driving record.
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions in a thorough, neat, and timely manner and have the ability to read and follow blueprints.
- Skilled in the care and use of hand tools and power equipment used in the plumbing trade.
- Display mechanical aptitude.
- Maintain courteous, helpful behavior at all times.
- Self-starter possessing the interpersonal skills required to be a productive team player.
- Ability to obtain CJIS clearance and pass a security check and a drug test, as required. This position is Safety Sensitive and will be subject to random drug and alcohol screening.
In accordance with Harris County's Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP) Policy, this position is subject to emergency response and deployment protocols. The employee may be designated as supporting a Mission Essential Function (MEF) and must:
- Participate in the classification process of departmental staff based on MEF responsibilities.
- Be available for temporary deployment to an alternative work location, role, or telework assignment during emergency events.
- Confirm work assignments with their supervisor prior to reporting to any worksite during such events.
- Remain flexible in assuming alternative duties as directed to support continuity of County operations.
Applicants for this position will be subject to a criminal background check that includes being fingerprinted. This applies to any position with network access to Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) or access to an area where CJIS is received, maintained or stored either manually or electronically (i.e. custodian, maintenance).
Automatic Disqualification:- Convictions, probation, or deferred adjudication for any Felony, and any Class A Misdemeanor
- Convictions, probation, or deferred adjudication for a Class B Misdemeanor, if within the previous 10 years
- Open arrest for any criminal offense (Felony or Misdemeanor)
- Family Violence conviction

Full-Time | Regular | 40 hours per week.
Subject to early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and holidays at times, depending on the project or workload.
Salary:Commensurate with experience, based on 26 pay periods.
Physical Demands and Environmental ExposureMay work outside in all kinds of weather; may work with no air conditioning or heating; will work on ladders and scaffolding; duties require standing, sitting, stretching, bending, stooping, climbing, frequent lifting of a minimum of 50 lbs. of equipment, supplies, and tools, and must have the ability to safely install rigging/lifting devices for heavier items.
