This role is as a Journeyman Electrician in support of the Maintenance Services Department under the Contract for Organizing Spaceflight Mission Operations and Systems (COSMOS), which is NASA’s next-generation mission operations contract located on-site at Johnson Space Center. COSMOS ensures the continuity of critical human spaceflight support by providing mission control services, advanced training systems, and full-scale spacecraft mockups for astronaut preparation and engineering analysis.

The Journeyman Electrician applies experience, electrical code knowledge, and sound judgement while performing a variety of tasks such as the installation, maintenance, and repair of equipment used for the generation, distribution, or utilization of electrical energy. Typical equipment and systems supported include electronic controlled Power Distribution Units and Power Transfer Switches, reconfigurable power distribution grids, and hardwired bus grids. Expected work hours are Monday through Friday, 6 AM till 2:30 PM but may include some weekends as the work and schedule dictates.

• Possess a Journeyman license and maintain it through annual electrical code training.
• Strictly abide by OSHA, NASA, and COSMOS Safety & Quality policies, practices, and procedures. (New hires will receive General and Task Specific training along with Personal Protective Equipment prior to being allowed to participate in any electrical or physical work)
• Provide electrical expertise for the development of work package instructions to support system modifications.
• Utilize work packages, electrical code, test equipment and task specific instructions to install, modify, or repair electrical grids, circuits, and power distributing equipment.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships during regular interactions with NASA customers and other contractors while working together to support program needs
• Track procurement milestones and ensure timely delivery to meet project schedules.
• Possesses strong team-building skills across multi-functional areas that establish a collaborative operational structure including active listening, prompt service and follow-up
• Exhibit proven track record of working under tight deadlines
• Be well organized with the ability to coordinate, prioritize and execute multiple tasks simultaneously in a high-pressure environment.
• Ability to communicate verbally and in writing to work effectively with a variety of government and contractor personnel at all levels.

Must have one of the following combinations of education and experience: HS Diploma (or GED) and Journeyman Electrician’s License and 7 years of general experience.

• Must be physically be able to lift 50 pounds, climb stairs, work in confined spaces and on elevated platforms, and be able to pass a physical in order to wear PPE and breathe through a respirator.
