We are now looking for a Sr. In-Situ Machining Technician to join our team working for a better future.

The position is permanent , and the preferred location is Houston, Texas .

As a Sr. Machining Technician, you will be responsible for executing advanced in-situ machining and reconditioning activities on reciprocating engine components at customer sites, ensuring all work is performed according to Wärtsilä standards, safety requirements, and customer expectations.

In this role, you will serve as a key member of the In-Situ Machining team, providing technical expertise, supporting less experienced technicians, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance operational efficiency, service quality, and safety performance.

This position reports to the Team Leader Resources, In-Situ & Tool Center .

• Execute in-situ machining and reconditioning activities on reciprocating engine components in accordance with Wärtsilä standards, procedures, and customer requirements.
• Travel to customer locations, including land-based power plants and marine vessels, to perform machining, repair, and reconditioning services.
• Lead field machining activities and support successful project execution while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and customer satisfaction.
• Collaborate with internal teams and customers to ensure projects are completed within scope and schedule.
• Maintain, inspect, and ensure operational readiness of machining equipment, tools, and assets.
• Prepare and submit accurate technical reports, inspection records, and customer service documentation in accordance with company requirements.
• Collect and process time sheets, expenses, and service-related documentation accurately and on time.
• Provide technical guidance, coaching, and mentorship to junior technicians and team members.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to improve safety, efficiency, reliability, and service delivery.
• Ensure compliance with Wärtsilä Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental standards at all times.

• High school diploma, technical certification, or vocational training in Machining, Mechanical Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in in-situ machining, field machining services, or a similar heavy industrial environment.
• Demonstrated experience machining and reconditioning reciprocating engine components.
• Strong knowledge of portable machining equipment, precision measurement tools, and machining techniques.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and service manuals.
• Experience troubleshooting machining equipment and resolving technical challenges in the field.
• Experience working independently at customer sites and executing field service projects.
• Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
• Commitment to the highest standards of safety and quality.
• Ability and willingness to travel extensively to customer locations.
• Valid driver's license.
• Proficiency in English, both written and verbal.

• Experience supporting marine and power generation customers.
• Experience with line boring, laser alignment, optical measurement systems, portable grinding equipment, and in-situ crankshaft machining.
• Experience mentoring, coaching, or training technicians.
• Additional machining or technical certifications.
• Spanish language skills are considered an asset.
