Job OverviewUnder general supervision, performs professional correction work supervising adults placed on pre‑trial bond supervision by the courts. Work involves regularly meeting with probationers to ensure adherence to terms of pre‑trial bond supervision, maintaining records of probationers' activities and status, determining the level of supervision necessary for individual probationers, providing limited counseling and referring clients to probation assistance programs, and conferring with law enforcement and court personnel regarding violations of probation.
ResponsibilitiesMeet with probationers in office or at their residences according to established schedules, advise clients of provisions of pre‑trial bond supervision agreements and ensure adherence to agreements, provide limited counseling and refer clients to community‑based probation assistance programs; engage family members, employers or other references to ensure compliance; maintain individual case files, record all contacts, prepare reports of client status; obtain and record probationer details such as residence, family ties, employment, and prior criminal convictions;
prepare documents for dismissal of probation and obtain judge's signatures; use computer terminals connected to the Texas and National Crime Information Center and/or contact law enforcement agencies to inquire about criminal history or current charges; assess risks of further violations, determine necessary level of supervision, and implement appropriate reporting schedules; enter, store and retrieve case file information using computerized data entry equipment and word processing programs;
summarize data for standard reports; collaborate with district attorneys, judges, law enforcement personnel, immigration service officials, counselors and other professionals connected to agencies providing human services to probationers; install electronic monitoring equipment as appropriate; obtain urine samples from probationers for drug‑use analysis; use Spanish language to assist individuals who cannot communicate sufficiently in English; ensure regular and punctual attendance; perform other related work as required.
- Must have a bachelor's degree conferred by an accredited institution recognized by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.
- Unless the bachelor's degree is in criminology, corrections, counseling, law, social work, psychology, sociology, or a related field approved by the TDCJ‑CJAD Director, the candidate must have:
- One year of graduate study in one of those fields; or
- One year of experience in full‑time casework, counseling, or community or group work approved by the TDCJ‑CJAD Director.
- Cannot be employed as a peace officer.
- Cannot currently be on community supervision or parole or serving a sentence for a criminal offense. CSCD directors may apply to the TDCJ‑CJAD Director for a waiver of paragraph (2) as specified in Section 163.5 of this title; the request must document efforts made to employ a community supervision officer meeting the requirements and explain why the efforts were unsuccessful. All community supervision officers employed by the CSCD director must comply with the Code of Ethics developed by the TDCJ‑CJAD.
Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
