Microchip Technology Inc. is recruiting an Engineer II – Software Development in Houston, Texas. The role focuses on enhancing and maintaining a custom, in‑house test automation framework used by internal teams to validate Microchip storage products in a fast‑paced, fully automated test environment. The Engineer will also maintain infrastructure servers and network hardware and contribute to AI/ML initiatives by integrating intelligent tooling and observability into the test infrastructure.
Responsibilities- Design and develop frameworks and tools using PHP, Java, SQL, Svelte Kit, Type Script, and bash/shell scripting.
- Design, develop, and maintain relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQLite) to enhance automated testing capabilities.
- Collaborate with QA test teams to support and continuously improve the automated test environment.
- Maintain servers, hardware, and software components that provide infrastructure for the automated QA environment.
- Implement and maintain observability solutions—including distributed tracing, metrics collection, log aggregation, and dashboards—to improve system visibility and reliability.
- Support AI/ML integration efforts by contributing to tooling, pipelines, and infrastructure that enable intelligent automation within the QA organization.
- Operate within a team to estimate and track tasks using Agile development methodologies.
- Design, develop, and maintain RESTful APIs following Swagger/OpenAPI specifications to support test automation and infrastructure tooling.
- Drive innovation and integration of new technologies into projects and activities for Microchip’s quality assurance organization.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering plus 2.5 years of relevant industry experience.
- 4+ years of proven software development and programming experience in web development languages (HTML, CSS, JSON, jQuery, SQL, PHP, Java, Type Script, NodeJS, and Docker).
- Experience developing and consuming RESTful APIs and documenting them with Swagger/OpenAPI specifications.
- Experience with relational databases including MySQL, PostgreSQL, and/or SQLite.
- Familiarity with UI/UX design principles and ability to create intuitive, user‑friendly interfaces for internal tooling and dashboards.
- Experience with cloud platforms, specifically AWS and/or Azure, including core services such as compute, storage, and networking.
- Good understanding of object‑oriented design and programming best practices.
- Experience installing and maintaining Linux operating systems.
- Strong design, analysis, and debugging skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Familiarity with NFS and Git configuration and administration.
- Experience with Atlassian tools:
Jira for project tracking and Bitbucket for source control and code review workflows. - Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, particularly Jenkins, for build automation and test orchestration.
- Familiarity with observability and monitoring tools:
Open Telemetry, Grafana, Prometheus, and Sentry. - Knowledge of Kubernetes for container orchestration and workload management.
- Experience with log aggregation and visualization (ELK/EFK stack or equivalent).
- Experience with Python for scripting and automation tooling.
- Familiarity with AI/ML concepts and ability to support AI integration within the QA organization.
- Experience with integrating web‑based cloud data and storage solutions (AWS, Azure).
