The company is a small boutique software consulting agency focused on custom ERP and software development for SMBs, with work in applied AI and internal tools. The organization is seeking a fractional engineering leader (around 5–10 hours/week, flexible) to improve delivery and engineering execution by setting and enforcing deadlines, removing blockers, and guiding a team of mostly senior engineers. Candidates located in Texas or able to attend occasional in-person client meetings in the area are preferred.
Responsibilities- Provide around 5–10 hours/week of engineering leadership, with flexibility to increase hours as needed
- Set, communicate, and enforce delivery deadlines and milestones for client work
- Identify and remove blockers to keep work moving forward
- Coordinate and prioritize work across a small team of senior/tech‑lead engineers
- Review architecture and code at a high level and advise on QA and delivery processes
- Establish or improve SDLC practices (planning, estimation, CI/CD, testing, releases)
- Run or support a lightweight team cadence (standups, planning, progress reviews)
- Mentor and coach engineers to improve execution and accountability
- Liaise with the founder and client stakeholders to align on priorities and progress
- Attend occasional in-person client meetings in Texas as needed
- Proven engineering management or technical lead experience in production software teams
- Strong technical background sufficient to review code, architecture, and QA practices
- Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS) preferred; modern JavaScript/Type Script experience is a plus
- Comfortable operating in a fractional/part-time engagement and with remote coordination
- Experience in consulting or client-facing roles preferred (ability to represent the team with clients)
- Excellent communication, prioritization, and problem-solving skills
- Located in Texas or able to travel to the region for occasional in-person meetings (preferred)
