Position: 2026-2027 Information Technology - Software Engineer - Intern

What You’ll Actually Do

Chevron is hiring Software Engineer Interns at various operating locations across the U.S., including Houston, TX. The role focuses on delivering innovative digital solutions through design, development, deployment, and support. Interns work on key projects and digital innovation initiatives following agile principles, collaborating with product teams to develop reusable software components and services.

Software Engineer Responsibilities
  • Hands‑on coding to deliver functional, innovative software solutions.
  • Utilize CI/CD tooling to deploy software and iterate solutions.
  • Design and develop data integration and data management practices and tools.
  • Utilize AI‑assisted development tools (e.g., Git Hub Copilot) to improve developer productivity while maintaining code quality, security, and governance standards.
  • Apply responsible‑AI practices, including validation, testing, security review, and human oversight of AI‑generated code and solutions.
  • Leverage AI and automation capabilities to accelerate software delivery and operational excellence.
Application Engineer Responsibilities
  • Hands‑on development for integrating existing solutions with the larger enterprise ecosystem (e.g., API development, Azure Data Factory).
  • Utilize CI/CD tooling to deploy software and iterate on solutions.
  • Design and develop data integration and data management practices and tools.
  • Understand technical requirements to maintain and support applications.
  • Deploy, configure, support, and enhance vendor software packages.
  • Utilize AI‑assisted development tools (e.g., Git Hub Copilot) to improve developer productivity while maintaining code quality, security, and governance standards.
  • Apply responsible‑AI practices, including validation, testing, security review, and human oversight of AI‑generated code and solutions.
  • Leverage AI and automation capabilities to accelerate software delivery and operational excellence.

What You Must Have
  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Management Information Systems, Electrical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Must provide a current, unofficial transcript with an online resume to demonstrate good academic standing when applying for this position.

What Sets You Apart
  • Experience with C#, .NET, Java, Python, Type Script, JavaScript, React, Angular, Node.js, SQL, Git Hub Actions, Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/Bicep), Kubernetes/Open Shift, Azure Cloud Services, REST APIs, GraphQL, Event‑Driven Architectures, and AI‑enabled development tools such as Git Hub Copilot.
  • Experience with Git Hub Enterprise, pull request workflows, branch protection, code reviews, and modern trunk‑based or Git‑based development practices.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the software development lifecycle (plan, design, develop, test, release, maintain, support, decommission).
  • Hands‑on experience with Azure Cloud, Ansible, and Azure Dev Ops.
  • Demonstrated business negotiation skills, influence, conflict resolution, and ability to resolve technical stalemates.

Compensation & Benefits

The anticipated monthly (hourly) range for this position is $23.65 - $37.50. Compensation will be determined based on the selected role, degree level, and academic year.

  • Furnished housing.
  • Participation in Employee Savings Investment Plan with immediate vesting in both employee and company contributions.
    • Chevron matching contributions:
      • 4% company match for a 1% employee contribution.
      • 8% company match for a 2% employee contribution.
  • Work schedules:
    • Flexible work schedules (5/40, 9/80, or 4/10), as determined by the work group and confirmed with the hiring manager.
  • Paid holidays depending on your work schedule.
  • Full year of service credit for each internship completion (must be re‑employed within 365 days).
Relocation Options

Relocation may be considered.

International Considerations
