- Own technical conversations and delivery in partnership with the Crude business on Digital Ambition, Platforms and Tools, Agentic AI Innovation, AI Governance, People Enablement and AI Use Cases across the Life of a Deal.
- Enable rapid delivery of business‑critical tools.
- Support experimentation and innovation through the DIY+ environment.
- Seamlessly transition applications to IT‑managed production when scale or criticality demands.
- Drive engineering leadership with end‑to‑end accountability for technical strategy and delivery of products/projects within the Crude Digital portfolio.
- Apply architectural leadership and drive consensus on technology decisions.
- Report to the Crude and Products Senior Delivery Manager.
- Foster collaboration, drive consensus, and communicate complex technical concepts.
- Lead in technical expertise, identify opportunities, drive innovation, and deliver impact beyond the initial remit.
- Industry Knowledge:
- Simulation of crude trading, physical supply chains, cargo scheduling, logistics, quality differentials.
- Financial markets: futures, derivatives, hedging and price discovery.
- Experience in Commodity Trading & Price Risk Management or Capital Markets / Investment Banks.
- Understanding of financial regulations, compliance, regulation, credit and risk, finance, operations, market analysis.
- Knowledge of the Life of a Deal (LOAD).
- Experience & Leadership:
- Extensive experience in software or architecture delivery with significant years leading engineering teams.
- Recruit, develop, motivate and collaborate with high‑performing teams.
- Direct workload of engineers/architects, partition tasks, assign accountability.
- Support talent acquisition and high‑performing teams in both architecture and engineering.
- Technical Architecture & Design:
- Influence technical architecture and own design and standards for software products.
- Contribute to architecture decisions across portfolios.
- Create pragmatic, implementable designs balancing risk, complexity, cost, and value.
- Collaboration & Communication:
- Collaborate with business and IT stakeholders for strategic and day‑to‑day decisions.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills; experience in trading environments.
- Facilitate discussions and manage expectations.
- Active participant in the wider Tech Lead and engineering communities.
- Problem Solving & Innovation:
- Diagnose problems and implement innovative solutions fitting within the Shell Trading picture.
- Manage dependencies, overcome obstacles, and maximize value against constraints.
- Technical Skills and Mastery:
- Expert in one or more programming languages (Java, Python, .Net).
- Cloud Native Platform Development (AWS, Azure, etc.).
- Front‑end technologies (React).
- Data Development (SQL/No‑SQL, Cloud Data stores, Databricks/Spark, Azure Data Factory).
- Azure Platform & Cloud Native: application development, migrations, containers, micro‑services, federated data platforms.
- Data management, privacy, security, pipeline development, warehousing, lifecycle management, big data, streaming, IoT, low‑latency event triggers.
- Proficient with SQL and No
SQL databases. - Azure services:
Functions, Web Apps, event Hub, Kafka, ELK, Active Directory, Data Factory, Data Lake, Storage, Kubernetes Service, CosmosDB, SQL Data Warehouse. - Integration with Confluent/Kafka, API Management, Logic Apps.
- CI/CD and Dev Ops:
Git, Git Hub, VSTS/Azure Dev Ops, Terraform, Ansible. - Agile & Engineering Standards:
Practical agile experience in enterprise environments.
- Documentation & Coordination:
- Document business process, data, application, technical, and information security aspects in high‑level design documents.
- Coordinate with third‑party IT stakeholders (Data Architects, IRM, IDSO, etc.).
The base salary range for this position is $178,000 – $266,000per year. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, business travel accident insurance, occupational accidental death benefit programs, pension, 401(k), up to 6 weeks paid vacation, up to 11 paid holidays, parental leave (16 weeks for birthing parents, 8 weeks for non‑birthing parents), short‑term disability up to 26 weeks, long‑term disability insurance, and discretionary long‑term incentives.
