Staff Product Engineer / Web Lead

Remote across the U.S. or Houston, Texas

Full-time

We’re hiring a Staff Product Engineer to lead the development of a growing web platform used by homeowners and HVAC professionals.

The product uses connected devices and real-time telemetry to help people understand what is happening inside one of the most important systems in their homes. It can identify issues earlier and provide useful information about maintenance and performance.

There is plenty still to build, and the person joining us will have a genuine say in how we approach it.

The role

You’ll be the first Staff Product Engineer focused on our web products, working closely with the VP of Engineering and teams across the wider business.

We need someone who can set technical direction and then get into the code to deliver it. You’ll work across homeowner and contractor portals, alongside internal tools that turn large amounts of telemetry into something clear and useful.

The work will vary. You might spend one day thinking through the longer-term shape of the platform and the next building a feature or improving an interaction with the design team.

This is a hands-on position. Although you’ll lead important architectural decisions, you’ll also write production code and be directly involved in shipping the work.

What you’ll be working on
  • Leading the architecture and technical roadmap for the web platform.
  • Building production applications with
React, Next.js and Type Script .
  • Creating shared components and reusable frontend foundations.
  • Making decisions around rendering, state management and data fetching.
  • Building responsive interfaces for telemetry and AI-generated insights.
  • Working with backend engineers on APIs and data integrations.
  • Raising standards across testing and accessibility.
  • Improving performance, observability and web security.
  • Partnering with designers to make sure the finished product feels as considered as the engineering behind it.
  • Supporting other engineers as the team grows.
  • You’ll have room to introduce better ways of working. We’re interested in practical improvements that help the team build good software, rather than adding process for its own sake.
What we’re looking for

You’ll probably have at least eight years of professional software engineering experience. That said, the quality and scope of what you’ve owned matters more than the number itself.

Strong candidates will have:

  • Deep experience with
React, Next.js and Type Script .
  • Taken a product from an early idea through launch and into meaningful scale.
  • Designed modular frontend platforms with shared component infrastructure.
  • Built data-heavy products involving complex APIs or real-time information.
  • Clear opinions about web architecture that come from hands-on experience.
  • A good eye for usability and experience working closely with product designers.
  • Practical knowledge of testing, CI/CD and build systems.
  • The confidence to make decisions while requirements are still taking shape.
  • The ability to explain technical choices clearly to different audiences.

Experience with connected devices or operational software would be useful. Exposure to telemetry and AI products would also be relevant, but none of these are firm requirements.

Why join?
  • You’ll be joining early enough to influence the foundations, but at a point where the technology is already solving real problems for real users.
  • The work is technically interesting and closely connected to the physical world. Your decisions will shape several customer-facing products, rather than one isolated feature area.
  • You’ll also be trusted to use your judgement. The team cares about moving quickly, but not at the expense of building something dependable and maintainable.

It’s a good fit for an experienced engineer who wants meaningful ownership and still enjoys spending a large part of the week building.
