New Value Solutions (NVS), a national IT consulting firm, is seeking a Senior Embedded Firmware Engineer to support a client's Research and Development team. The engineer will take ownership of firmware design, development, maintenance, and optimization for high-performance embedded systems while helping ensure software reliability, architecture integrity, and successful delivery of new and existing product capabilities.
Responsibilities:
- Enhance and maintain existing firmware systems while maintaining software architecture integrity and a seamless user experience.
- Evaluate existing applications to identify opportunities for improvement, optimization, and scalability.
- Refactor and optimize embedded code for resource efficiency without compromising functionality.
- Lead the selection and adoption of development tools, technologies, coding standards, and firmware development best practices.
- Conduct unit testing, debugging, validation, and troubleshooting prior to product release.
- Investigate and resolve firmware issues identified during internal testing or reported by customers.
- Provide task estimates, progress reporting, and technical documentation.
- Contribute to formal verification and validation plans.
- Manage version control, firmware releases, and product updates.
- Work with management to align technical deliverables with project goals and schedules.
- Collaborate with Product Management and Engineering to assess the feasibility of new applications, features, and product capabilities.
- Develop and integrate critical embedded software components, frameworks, and device drivers.
- Take initiative in assuming additional technical and project responsibilities as requirements evolve.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Computer Science, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 15+ years of hands‑on experience in embedded firmware development.
- Expert‑level experience with Embedded C and C++.
- Strong knowledge of data structures, real‑time operating systems, and microprocessors.
- Strong experience working with QNX and Linux environments.
- Practical experience with memory technologies and interfaces including NAND, NOR, and DDR
4. - Working knowledge of embedded communication protocols including UART, I2C, SPI, and Ethernet.
- Experience developing multithreaded embedded applications.
- Strong understanding of the complete firmware development lifecycle, from concept through deployment.
- Strong knowledge of software architecture principles and design patterns.
- Experience using IDEs, debugging emulators, and version control systems such as SVN and Git.
- Proven ability to lead projects, mentor team members, and deliver against project deadlines.
- Excellent debugging, analytical, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams and time zones.
- Ability to prioritize multiple projects and work independently or collaboratively in a fast‑paced technical environment.
