Description:
Directs an ongoing university program to ensure that prescribed activities are carried out in accordance with its mission and/or specified objectives. Prepares short- and long-term goals and objectives.
MQ: Education:
Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed.
Experience:
Requires a minimum of three (3) years of directly job-related experience.
JOB DESCRIPTION: The Program Director of Rec Sports is responsible for the day‑to‑day operation and staff supervision of a comprehensive Recreational Sports program that consists of Sport Clubs and Intramural Sports. The Program Director will be responsible for development, long‑range planning and assessment, budget, risk management, and maintaining accurate records of participation. This position reports to the Associate Director of Campus Recreation.
Evenings and weekends are required.
- Directs the recruitment, selection, supervision, payroll process, and evaluation of staff and students; provide guidance, and is responsible for professional development and training for staff.
- Provides supervision to the Program Manager (Coordinator) for Recreational Sports and assists with the supervision of student staff.
- Provides leadership and direction for a comprehensive Sport Club and Intramural Sports programs; ensures department policies and procedures follow local and state regulations; creates various reports including annual and semiannual reports as needed.
- Assess, evaluate, and mitigate risk for programs, implement departmental emergency action plan, inspect campus program areas and fields, and contribute to the Departmental Safety Committee.
- Maintain records, contract agreements, and sports equipment.
- Responsible for scheduling and coordinating departmental programs; consults with and responds to participant questions and concerns.
- Develop, plan, and implement long‑range strategic plans and assessment of student development, learning outcomes, evaluations of programs, services, and staff.
- Develop program budgets, monitor expenses and revenue goals, and identify opportunities for fundraising, sponsorship, and grants to support programs and events.
- Collaborate with campus partners and academic units to develop and implement programs and events that contribute to student success.
- Perform other job‑related duties as required.
- Evenings and weekends required.
A Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology, Health Education, Physical Education, Sports Management, Recreation, or related field. Master’s degree preferred. Minimum requirements include 3‑years of direct experience in intramural sports, sport clubs or family programming, progressive experience in a university setting, supervisory experience of full‑time staff, and direct experience in the management of sport clubs and intramural sports.
