Position OverviewThe Surgical Tech Skills Instructor works with faculty to provide students with hands‑on surgical technology experience in a laboratory setting. The role assists faculty in delivering learning activities and support that help students achieve laboratory course objectives. Additional responsibilities involve maintaining the surgical technology lab and supplies. Skills instructors cannot provide teaching functions without a qualified faculty member present.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS- Ability to mentor students in a laboratory setting.
- Ability to work independently without close supervision.
- Knowledge of FERPA and confidentiality of student progress and information.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
- Knowledge of lab duties and responsibilities.
- Flexibility and creativity to perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to work well in a multiethnic and multicultural environment with students, faculty, and staff.
The work requires some physical exertion, such as long periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities; or recurring lifting of moderately heavy items. The work may require above‑average agility and dexterity.
WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS- Equipment includes a PC workstation on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone, and other general office equipment.
- Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position.
- Work performed in a climate‑controlled office and/or laboratory environment with exposure to safety hazards typical of medical lab environments.
- Current Surgical Technology Certification from NBSTSA.
- At least 2 years of work experience as a surgical technologist.
Hourly Pay Rate: $29.68
