Summary
The incumbent serves as a Transportation Assistant‑Transportation Coordinator and acts as the primary contact to Veterans for transportation needs. The incumbent works with the Veteran Transportation Service (VTS) Supervisory Mobility Manager for transportation workload forecasting, scheduling design, procedure development, quality improvement implementation, modification of processes, evaluation, and ongoing operational flow of the Veteran Transportation Services program.
QualificationsTo qualify for this position applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement – 03/02/2026. Time‑In‑Grade Requirement:
Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time‑in‑grade requirements by the closing date. For a GS‑06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS‑05. The grade may have been in any occupation but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF‑50 that shows your time‑in‑grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials.
If the most recent SF‑50 has an effective date within the past year it may not clearly demonstrate one‑year time‑in‑grade as required by the announcement – in this instance you must provide an additional SF‑50 that clearly demonstrates one‑year time‑in‑grade.

Time‑In‑Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience as described below.
Specialized Experience GS‑6:
You must have at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS‑05) in the Federal Service that is directly related to the work of the position and has equipped you with the specific knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties as a Transportation Assistant‑Transportation Coordinator. Qualifying specialized experience includes performing transportation support duties such as coordinating connections/scheduling, documenting travel information, collecting, compiling, and tracking data on a daily basis, performing a basic analysis of data and generating reports, entering data into automated tracking databases, and planning and directing a program that provides support services.
One full year of work is considered to be 35‑40 hours per week. Part‑time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.

The incumbent will be exposed to stressful working situations that require a professional attitude and collective reasoning. The incumbent is subject to a high volume of work – the need for accuracy – frequency of interruptions and ever‑changing demands due to program changes. Duties will be predominantly performed in the Veteran Transportation Service program office with intermittent trips to various locations throughout the Medical Center's catchment area both in and near patient care areas where there may be risk of exposure to disease.
