What We Are Looking For DISPATCH SUPERVISOR POSITION SUMMARYThe Dispatch Supervisor is responsible for coordinating the daily utilization of drivers, trucks, and containers to create capacity, maximize productivity, and ensure prompt, courteous, and efficient service to all customers. This role oversees and supervises assigned dispatchers, providing guidance, support, and performance oversight to ensure dispatch operations run smoothly and efficiently. The Dispatch Supervisor works closely with operations and field teams to optimize routing, resolve service issues, and maintain high service and safety standards.
ESSENTIALDUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervise and oversee the daily activities of assigned dispatchers, providing guidance, support, and direction to ensure efficient dispatch operations.
- Assign loads to drivers based on designated routes and driver location utilizing proven methods for building efficient routes.
- Prepare, update and dispense the daily route schedule as well as manage.
- Gather and maintain route sheet documentation for pick-ups (scheduled, missed, extra pick-ups), route completions and driver locations.
- Adjust dispatch plans and reallocate drivers as necessary to meet service needs (breakdowns, lateness, driver hours available etc.)
- Assist drivers with delivery orders, directions, instructions, mileage information.
- Communicate with customers in a timely & effective manner.
- Research and resolve customer issues quickly and accurately.
- Ensure route completion via the driver check-in process.
- Monitor and utilize web-based applications, tools, and reports.
- Enter truck, driver, and load information to software and spreadsheets.
- Report driver performance issues or concerns to appropriate management and work our resolutions.
- Manage, develop, and lead the dispatch team.
- Assist with efficiency re-routes.
- Resolve service issues.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned or apparent.
- 1 year of dispatching in waste industry highly preferred.
- 1 year of verifiable supervision experience.
- Understanding of Federal and State Regulations as it pertains to DOT.
- Accurate and efficient typing skills and data entry skills.
- Ability to interact with difficult and demanding customers.
- Read, comprehend, and complete basic checklists. forms or other related documents.
- Strong proficiency in computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
- Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner.
- Ability to multi-task using multi-line phone and computer.
- Ability to function as a team and get along with others.
- Ability to develop processes that improve the workflow and customer service.
- Most work is performed in a temperature-controlled office environment.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis.
- Stooping, bending, twisting, and reaching may be required in completion of job duties.
- Prolonged periods of sitting while working on a computer, phone, or radio dispatch systems.
