- Act as a professional teammate, working productively with and respectfully towards students and colleagues so that all feel valued, supported, and part of the team.
- Serve as the primary responsible for ensuring the health, safety and welfare of the children, staff and volunteers during bus transportation to and from the school and on field trips.
- Must be available weekdays (morning & evening) and occasionally weekends for off‑campus activities.
- Complete daily written inspections of the bus and report any conditions of concern to the Manager before transporting children.
- Maintain communication devices (two‑way radio, cellular phone) in proper working order before each trip.
- Arrange and ensure completion of routine bus maintenance (oil, change) and transport the bus to and from maintenance/repair facilities.
- Ensure the bus always has sufficient fuel.
- Follow efficient and safe written bus routes that maintain the time schedule.
- Operate the bus in a manner that complies with road and safety regulations; report any traffic violations or delays immediately to the Manager.
- Follow safe bus loading and unloading procedures.
- Ensure no child is left alone on a bus without adult supervision at any time, including confirming all children have departed the bus at the end of routes.
- Keep the bus clean and free of debris; follow bus cleaning procedures.
- Inventory bus emergency and first aid supplies regularly, reporting needs to the Manager.
- In case of accidents or emergencies, evacuate children according to written procedures.
- Follow medical emergency procedures, complete a written accident report per school procedures and other authorities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Follow the specified timetable while on duty and know driving directions and routes.
- Seek continual improvement each year by accepting coaching and engaging in professional development opportunities.
Skills and Abilities
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Possess a current Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), hold a current Class B license with P (Passenger) and S (School Bus) endorsements, and be certified in First Aid and CPR for all age groups transported.
- Successful experience as a School Bus Driver.
- Effective oral and written communication skills in English.
- Pass an annual School Bus Driver’s physical examination.
- Pass background check and drug testing as required by the school and state licensing agency.
- Valid Texas driver’s license.
- Present a positive image of the school to the community.
- Visual and auditory accuracy within normal ranges, corrected if needed.
- Free of communicable diseases and breathing impairments.
- Effective organizational, problem‑solving, and time‑management skills.
