JOB SUMMARY

The Transportation Coordinator 2 coordinates activities of the senior leader's office to support effective coordination and collaboration. Provides support to the (department) through collecting information, communicating with stakeholders, and gathering feedback from customers on the impact of the (department) work. Executes special projects that have significant operational or organizational impact. Supports administrative staff.

This position also plays a key role in cultivating a culture of professionalism, accountability, and operational excellence across the transportation team.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Assist with daily terminal operations to ensure safe, efficient, and on-time student transportation, including routing, dispatching, and service delivery.

2. Manage end-to-end project implementation for transportation initiatives, including defining scope, establishing timelines, tracking milestones, and ensuring deliverables align with district goals.

3. Develop and maintain project plans, dashboards, and status reports to monitor performance, mitigate risks, and ensure accountability across operations and special projects.

4. Oversee, evaluate, and support coordinators and transportation personnel to maintain high service, safety, and compliance standards.

5. Manage substitute driver assignments to ensure adequate coverage for scheduled routes and unexpected absences.

6. Assist with bus routes, scheduling, and dispatch functions to optimize efficiency, coverage, and resource utilization.

7. Communicate with fleet management to ensure all vehicles are operational, properly maintained, and ready for daily service.

8. Facilitate compliance with operational procedures, including driver check-ins, pre- and post-trip inspections, on-time departures, mid-route verification, vehicle cleanliness, and proper parking protocols.

9. Support recruitment, training, and certification processes for transportation personnel to maintain a qualified and compliant workforce align with District policies and applicable Transportation regulations.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES CONTINUED

10. Serve as a liaison for school administrators, families, and stakeholders, addressing transportation concerns, resolving issues, and providing timely service updates.

11. Assist with investigating transportation incidents, accidents, and service complaints; ensure proper documentation and implement corrective actions with a strong focus on student safety.

12. Collect, analyze, and report on operational data, including performance metrics, staffing, and service outcomes, to support continuous improvement and decision-making.

13. Support the implementation processes relating to routing efficiency, fleet utilization, and overall service delivery.

14. Support satellite transportation sites to ensure consistency, compliance, and alignment with district standards and expectations when needed.

15. Perform other job-related duties as assigned, contributing to the overall effectiveness of transportation operations and a student-centered service model.

EDUCATION

Bachelor's degree, required.

WORK EXPERIENCE

At least 7 years' experience in school bus transportation services or district/central office of a large urban school district.

Current Commercial Driver's License (CDL), strongly preferred.

SKILL AND/OR REQUIRED LICENSING/CERTIFICATION

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES

Work Leadership. Regularly provides project management or team leadership to a group of two or more employees. Directly manages and supervises Unit Leaders.

WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT

Work is substantially complex, varied and regularly requires the selection and application of technical and detailed guidelines. Independent judgment is required to identify, select, and apply the most appropriate methods as well as interpret precedent. Position regularly makes recommendations to management on areas of significance to the department. Supervision received typically consists of providing directions on the more complex projects and new job duties and priorities.

BUDGET AUTHORITY

Compiles and organizes data and figures.

PROBLEM SOLVING

Decisions are made on both routine and non-routine matters with some latitude but are still subject to approval. Occasionally expect to recommend new solutions to problems and improve existing methods or generate new ideas.
