Senior Air & Ocean Import Specialist | Houston, Texas | Salary:
Up to $75,000
This role is responsible for managing the end-to-end import process for both air and ocean shipments, ensuring compliance with U.S. Customs regulations, delivering exceptional customer service, and coordinating with overseas agents, carriers, customs brokers, and internal stakeholders.
The candidate will have a strong background in international freight forwarding, extensive knowledge of import operations, and the ability to independently handle complex shipments while mentoring team members.

- Manage the complete import process for air and ocean freight shipments from origin to final delivery.
- Coordinate with overseas offices, agents, steamship lines, airlines, trucking companies, warehouses, and customs brokers.
- Review and process shipping documentation including Bills of Lading, Air Waybills, commercial invoices, packing lists, and arrival notices.
- Monitor shipment status and proactively communicate updates, delays, and exceptions to customers.
- Ensure timely customs clearance by working closely with customs brokers and regulatory agencies.
- Verify shipment data, billing information, and vendor invoices for accuracy.
- Maintain compliance with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), TSA, FMC, and other applicable regulations.
- Resolve operational issues, discrepancies, claims, and customer concerns in a timely and professional manner.
- Track key milestones and maintain accurate records within the company's transportation management and operating systems.
- Provide guidance and support to import coordinators and assist with training initiatives.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, carriers, and overseas partners.
- Support management with process improvements and operational efficiency initiatives.
- Participate in customer meetings and contribute to service reviews as needed.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in international freight forwarding, with a focus on air and ocean import operations.
- Strong understanding of import documentation, customs clearance procedures, and international transportation regulations.
- Experience coordinating FCL, LCL, and air freight import shipments.
- Working knowledge of Incoterms, tariff classifications, and import compliance requirements.
- Proficiency with freight forwarding software and transportation management systems.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple shipments and deadlines simultaneously.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Advanced problem-solving and customer service abilities.
