Position Overview
A Private Fleet Supervisor of Transportation is responsible for the execution of day‑to‑day operational plans set forth by the transportation department. They provide direction and support to fellow transportation team members, promote engagement across the department, remove obstacles, and influence the experience associates have while y communicate with shipping, receiving, safety, customer service, maintenance and routing, serve as the initial escalation point for operational issues, and educate and promote proper work behaviors and procedures to maintain a culture of safety, including DOT compliance.
Responsibilities- Champion a team of drivers and hourly associates to optimal performance
- Engage associates and track key metrics
- Coach through performance issues and assist in process improvement and obstacle resolution
- Maximize customer experience while controlling costs, delivering service that meets or exceeds expectations at the lowest possible cost
- Steward Professional Driver Trainers in onboarding/mentoring newly hired drivers and completing annual training as outlined by the corporate safety program
- Monitor yard operations and ensure alignment with warehouse needs
- Monitor yard jockeys to meet performance expectations while following best practices and safety guidelines
- Complete routine observations and audits to ensure drivers perform pre‑ and post‑trip tasks, complete all assignments safely, timely and efficiently
- Promote accurate and complete use of the transportation management system
- Support the Safety Specialist with driver qualification files, driver log accuracy and execution of the company’s drug and alcohol testing protocol
- Familiar with DOT laws and regulations
- MS Office proficiency
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Manhattan TMS experience preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in Logistics & Transportation
- 2–5 years of experience supervising fleet or transportation operations
- 2–5 years working with transportation and DOT regulations
- 2–5 years of experience with yard management and fleet operations
- 2–5 years supervising teams of individual contributors
Willingness to travel required.
