Job Summary

To support growth of the company, Cox Fleet is hiring a Mobile Trailer Technician II. This is a dedicated on‑site role focused on DOT inspections, preventative maintenance, light repairs, and other assigned duties. The technician performs work at the customer’s site and may handle advanced repairs under supervision, learning additional mechanical skills over time.

Duties
  • Perform preventive maintenance, DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on trailers and equipment with little or no supervision.
  • Document work on company iOS device using the TRAIT application; upload photos, parts used, and findings.
  • Perform minor adjustments and repairs on trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps, engines, liftgates, brake chambers, and related systems.
  • Accurately complete DOT forms and other required documentation promptly.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical components.
  • Follow and comply with safe operating practices and procedures.
  • Independently manage parts inventory and reconcile supplies.
  • Maintain and operate the company‑issued service vehicle; conduct pre‑trip, post‑trip, and safety inspections.
  • Use hand tools, precision instruments, trailer tools, welding equipment, and jacks as needed.
  • Respond to immobilized or scheduled unscheduled service requests dispatched by the call center.
  • Work independently, manage daily schedule, and prioritize tasks to meet standard repair times.
  • Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors when required.
  • Communicate with management and support teams via email or phone for repair estimates and purchase orders.
  • Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, environmental policies, OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations.
  • Participate in corporate safety training and maintain certifications as required.
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with customers and vendors; communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED and at least 3 years of experience in trailer repair (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Possess a set of hand tools necessary for required job duties.
  • OEM training or certifications preferred.
  • Complete all company‑required training.
  • Comply with DOT regulations; successfully complete a DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and a DOT physical (or provide a current DOT medical card with more than four months validity).
  • Be at least 21 years old and hold a valid driver’s license; maintain a valid Driver Qualification File.
  • Safe driving record required.
  • Ability to lift 50 lb or more, bend, climb, stand, and walk for extended periods; perform moderately heavy labor.
Required or Obtained Within 18 Months
  • ASE T8 (PMI) certification
Preferred Certifications
  • ASE 608/609 certification
  • ASE T4 (Brakes) certification
  • ASE T5 (Suspension) certification
  • ASE T6 (Electrical and Electronic Systems) certification
  • ASE T7 (HVAC) certification
Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of trailer parts and systems to perform maintenance and repairs.
  • Ability to judge distances accurately.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to provide clear, concise information.
  • Logical thinking and reasoning to evaluate solutions and troubleshoot problems.
  • Determine appropriate tools and equipment for tasks.
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
