Position Summary
The scheduling position is responsible for optimally scheduling gasoline and distillate products out of origin refineries and terminals, and delivering light products to destination terminals. The successful candidate will be assigned to the Southern region and will experience many diverse scheduling roles. Modes of distribution used to execute the scheduling plan include barge, pipeline, rail, and truck. The candidate will interact with a wide array of organizations within MPC and MPLX, conducting business with pipelines, terminals, trading companies, and other external partners.
Key Responsibilities- Nominates and schedules pipeline, waterborne, truck, rail and/or delivery movements through use of proprietary and third‑party scheduling systems.
- Monitors inventories and shipping schedules daily to ensure that supply meets demand.
- Communicates and verifies planned movements with all stakeholders, including traders, optimizers, internal and external counter parties, customers, suppliers, producers, marketers, terminals, vessels, and pipelines.
- Provides timely and accurate inventory position information to Trading, Pricing, Marketing, Trucking, and Supervision.
- Responds to unexpected events, making contingency arrangements to minimize disruption of supply.
- Initiates and coordinates movements independently through Marathon’s distribution channels based on a given plan.
- Identifies constraints and begins to identify optimization opportunities on the desk.
- Gains knowledge of transportation costs associated with movements on the desk.
- Learns the regional supply picture.
- Manages more than one desk fluently.
- Trains others to cover desks.
- Works with RVP Coordinator, Terminals, Pipelines, and Marketing to coordinate RVP conversion during VOC season.
- Monitors inventory balances for Exchange contracts.
- Remains on call 24 hours a day to respond to emergencies or provide guidance and instructions.
A minimum bachelor’s degree in a related field is required. Two (2) to four (4) years of industry‑related experience are required. Previous scheduling experience is preferred but not required. Up to 10% travel is required.
