Position Purpose
This role accelerates business values by operating a tractor‑trailer and is responsible for delivering ice to customers and company locations. The driver is assigned a specific geographic market or route which may require overnight stays and may change depending on business needs.
Duties and Responsibilities- Operate and maintain a clean commercial motor vehicle in a safe and professional manner.
- Perform pre‑ and post‑trip inspections, adhere to state/federal hours of service requirements, and operate the vehicle in accordance with all applicable Federal Motor Carrier Safety regulations. Carry a valid Medical Examiner’s Certificate on person at all times while operating a commercial motor vehicle.
- Unload and deliver ice to customers and company locations using a safe, courteous, and service‑oriented method.
- Produce invoices for each delivery and all other required customer or company paperwork.
- Maintain the safe operation, working condition, and inventory of all driver tools, including handhelds, printers, handcarts, hand trucks, lift‑gates, and pallet jacks.
- Report all accidents and injuries, regardless of severity, as soon as practicable and no later than the same day. Report to direct supervisor any citations received no later than the next business day.
- Follow all Standard Operating Procedures and processes and maintain a strong team‑player approach with responsibilities.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities required or assigned by management.
- Adhere to the Code of Business Ethics, exercising honesty and integrity in all actions.
- Maintain high safety standards; safety is personal for everyone on the team.
This position operates tractor trailers and requires a Class A CDL license. The driver must possess a driving record that meets or exceeds company qualifying standards and demonstrate extreme care and courtesy on the roads.
Educational and Experience Requirements- High school education or GED required.
- Minimum 2 years of long haul (over‑the‑road) experience.
- At least 1 year experience driving a vehicle similar to the one assigned.
- Basic math skills and exceptional customer‑relations skills required.
Physical Requirements
The driver must be able to safely operate a commercial motor vehicle in a variety of weather and traffic situations. The role is very labor intensive, involving lifting, bending, and stacking ice to unload product. The driver must be able to lift up to 40‑pound bags of ice and move 700–1000lbs. of ice with assistance from proper equipment. The trailer temperature is 28–30°F.
Drivers must meet physical requirements per US Department of Transportation guidelines and be able to climb in/out of the vehicle, including cargo and driver areas.
