Job Purpose
The purpose of this position is to assist the Shipping department with plant shipping and receiving operations. The Logistics Specialist will support the Shipping department in day‑to‑day operations of the shop floor and flow of product to and from our facility. This position will perform a variety of duties pertaining to the receipt and distribution of incoming and outgoing products. The Logistics Specialist will be considered a shared resource to the Shipping Department and the Production Control Department.
Dutiesand Responsibilities
- Assist in coordinating inbound and outbound vendor shipments, ensuring accuracy and compliance with internal and customer requirements.
- Support trucking and loading operations including scheduling, documentation and communication with carriers.
- Work directly with shop floor employees providing feedback or directions when needed.
- Utilize Oracle to receive work orders and process transactions.
- Check department destinations of incoming materials and arrange distribution and delivery.
- Collaborate with multiple departments (Production Control, Operations and Sales) to coordinate workflow and resolve issues.
- Maintain accurate shipping and receiving records and documentation.
- Control flows of material to and from subcontract vendors.
- Assist Shipping department with customer shipments on an as needed basis.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards and labor guidelines.
- High school diploma with demonstrated applicable job experience.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to work on the shop floor and in an office environment as needed.
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing operational needs.
- Prior Logistics experience 1‑3 years.
- Prior shipping and receiving experience.
- Familiarity with manufacturing.
- Working knowledge of freight forwarders, carriers and international/domestic shipping processes.
- Experience in Oracle ERP or similar.
- Experience with export shipments and documentation.
- Prior experience working in environments with union labor or structured workforce rules.
- Must be able to wear all required Personal Protective Equipment.
- Must be able to lift 50lbs when needed.
- Constantly stand and walk throughout the workday.
- US Citizenship or Permanent Residency is required due to government military contracts.
