Position Overview
TAS Energy Inc. is seeking an experienced Class A Heavy Haul Driver for immediate direct hire. The role involves operating tractor‑trailer combinations to transport oversized, overweight, and specialized loads between TAS facilities and over‑the‑road project sites. Candidates should have strong experience with heavy haul equipment, a commitment to DOT and FMCSA compliance, and a safe, efficient track record.
Key Job Responsibilities- Perform thorough pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections to ensure safe, DOT‑compliant operation of tractors, trailers, and heavy haul equipment.
- Safely load, secure, and transport oversize and overweight freight, following all FMCSA, TXDOT, and TAS safety standards.
- Verify and document materials, equipment, and load information for accuracy before departure and upon delivery.
- Operate and maneuver specialized trailers (gooseneck, lowboy, stretch, multi‑axle, or steerable) with precision and care.
- Plan and execute routes in coordination with the logistics team, ensuring compliance with permitted travel paths and escort requirements.
- Manage basic maintenance and cleanliness of assigned vehicles and equipment to ensure readiness and reliability.
- Maintain and monitor DOT‑compliant driver files, including hours of service, vehicle inspection logs, and ELD entries.
- Conduct road tests and evaluations for new or prospective TAS drivers as assigned.
- Collaborate with the Logistics Manager and EHS Manager to identify and implement improvements to DOT, FMCSA, and TXDOT compliance programs.
- Participate actively in safety meetings, driver training sessions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support TAS logistics operations and company goals.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to safely operate heavy haul combinations up to 13 axles, including specialized trailers such as jeeps, boosters, lowboys, stretch, and self‑steering trailers.
- In‑depth knowledge of oversize/overweight permitting, routing, and load securement procedures.
- Expertise in DOT, FMCSA, and TXDOT compliance including HOS, ELD, and record‑keeping standards.
- Proficiency in advanced load securement techniques: proper use of chains, binders, tarping, and edge protection.
- Proficiency in GPS‑based route planning, dispatch, and fleet management systems (Samsara, or equivalent).
- Mechanical aptitude to identify and perform minor maintenance or troubleshooting while on the road.
- Familiarity with TMS software or similar transportation management systems.
- Strong commitment to safety with a “Safety First” mindset and adherence to all regulatory and company policies.
- Demonstrated ability to assess risks, perform pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections, and maintain accurate documentation.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, representing TAS professionally with clients, vendors, and site personnel.
- Time management and multitasking ability in dynamic, fast‑paced environments.
- Willingness and flexibility to travel long distances, including overnight stays as needed.
- Positive, proactive attitude and willingness to participate in continuous improvement and safety training programs.
Minimum of 3 years of professional Class A CDL driving experience, preferably in heavy haul, oversize/overweight, or specialized freight operations. Proven understanding of FMCSA and DOT safety regulations, load securement standards, and driver compliance requirements.
Completion of Defensive Driving, Load Securement, or Heavy Haul Safety courses is a plus.
Minimum Requirements- Must be 25+ years of age.
- Valid Class A Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
- Knowledgeable of USDOT requirements.
- Previous experience working in an industrial manufacturing setting.
- Able to walk/stand in steel‑toed boots for long periods and lift 50 lbs.
- Read and speak English fluently.
- Ability to lift 50–100 lbs (chains, binders, tarps).
- Long hours driving.
- Loading and unloading tasks.
- Bending, crouching, and reaching.
- Working outdoors in extreme weather (heat, cold, rain).
- Lifting, climbing, and securing loads.
