Position Overview
Solid Waste Management - North/South Operations
ResponsibilitiesThis individual will supervise the daily operational activities of a solid waste district, including the collection, transportation, and disposal of solid waste/recyclables. Issue work assignments and schedules, and/or reassign personnel to meet workload demands. Train employees on operations techniques. Investigate and respond to incidents, public inquiries, and vehicle accidents; resolve problems. Compile and maintain a variety of district records on such items as vehicles, equipment, personnel and operations.
Prepare and submit required management reports. Verify disciplinary actions, overtime reports and employee performance evaluation reports. Verify automated route container inventory. Supervise distribution of performance evaluation reports and automated containers. Prepare maps for collections and automation. Review operational policies and procedures and recommend changes. Assist in preparing budget and cost analysis. This position will travel throughout the City of Houston districts.
Conditions
The position requires lifting of heavy items up to 60 pounds and walking on rough surfaces routinely and/or regular physical exertion such as climbing ladders. There are routine discomforts from exposure to moderate heat, cold, moisture/wetness and unpleasant air conditions. The position may involve routine exposure to soiled materials and light chemical substances such as cleaning solution. All duties and responsibilities may not be included in the above job description.
Minimum RequirementsRequires a high school diploma or GED certification.
Experience RequirementsThree (3) years of experience in solid waste operations or a closely related field are required.
License RequirementsA valid Texas Driver's License and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving (AP 2-2).
Preferences- Preference will be given to applicants who have a valid Driver's License.
- Preference will be given to applicants with experience in solid waste operations.
- Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants who possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for.
Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification. Pay Grade: 22.
