Shop Foreman - Transportation

Run Service Desk/Daily Shop Operations. Perform State Inspections on District Vehicles. Operate District Wrecker as needed.

Education/Certification:

High school diploma or equivalent. Clear and valid Texas commercial driver's license (Class

A) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements. Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certified Automobile/Light Truck, Medium/Light Duty Truck, or School Bus Technician or TASBT Certified Master Technician.

Advanced knowledge of automotive mechanics and maintenance. Ability to diagnose mechanical problems and perform repairs. Ability to operate equipment and tools involved in vehicle repair. Ability to lift heavy equipment and vehicle parts. Ability to direct and supervise personnel and coordinate shop operations. Ability to pass alcohol and drug test and annual physical exam. Ability to complete required bus driver safety training.

Ability to operate bus. Effective communication skills.

Four (4) years experience in vehicle repair and maintenance procedures. Three (3) years supervisory experience minimum.

Assist in coordinating the operation of a safe and efficient maintenance program for district vehicles. Assign priority to work orders and process them, including tracking of labor and materials required to perform repairs, service, and preventative maintenance. Evaluate and recommend all repairs. Provide cost estimates when necessary. Assign all vehicle repairs and maintenance to shop personnel. Discuss mechanical problems with drivers and mechanics and assist them in solving repair problems.

Monitor progress of work and conduct follow-up inspections of completed work. Coordinate contract repairs and service. Assign or perform welding and minor body work. Perform major and minor vehicle repairs, service, and maintenance. Maintain inventory of district-owned tools, equipment, and materials. Supervise and evaluate shop workers and assist fleet manager in their evaluation. Prepare work schedules for shop personnel. Provide on-the-job training to shop employees.

Assist with the screening and selection of shop employees. Authorize time and attendance for payroll reporting (time cards, tardiness, and absenteeism). Instruct assigned personnel on safety procedures and proper use of equipment and tools. Maintain and promote safety in the shop by ensuring established safety procedures and techniques are followed including lifting, climbing, etc. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.

Ensure that equipment is in safe operating condition and perform preventative maintenance. Coordinate the assignment of buses for all trips. Operate District wrecker, buses and other vehicles as needed.
