Route McKinney Vento students on multiple forms of transportation to ensure safe, efficient service to all eligible students.

Education/Certification:

• High school graduate or GED
• Hold a valid class B - CDL driver’s license with “P” and “S” endorsement preferred
• Successfully complete Region IV School Bus certification class preferred
• Able to pass U.S. Department of Transportation alcohol and drug tests and annual physical exam

Special Knowledge/

Skills:

• Interact with a diverse group of individuals in a courteous and tactful manner and establish and maintain effective working relationships
• Use software to develop route schedules, spreadsheets, databases and word processing
• Become familiar with District streets and roads, read maps, and learn about transportation equipment and student needs
• Read and understand documents including policies and procedures manuals
• Receive and give written and verbal instructions
• Demonstrate ability to take initiative and able to work flexible hours as needed
• Remain calm and professional and exercise good judgement while working in a fluid environment with frequent interruptions
• Learn appropriate dispatching policies and practices within a reasonable amount of time
• Appropriately communicate with students, teachers, parents and members of the community

Experience:

• Minimum of two (2) years as an Alief ISD Transportation School bus driver preferred

Routes and Schedules

• Create, schedule, assign, and maintain all McKinney Vento routes in the transportation routing system.
• Assist schools with the allocation of new students on buses and collaborate with drivers of new and or dismissed students.
• Prepare and distribute route sheets and support information as needed for route changes.
• Prepare and update maps of the entire district by school, bus and route number.
• Keep student count report updated to facilitate the Texas State student services report.
• Maintain route descriptions and student files in the computer with hard copy support.
• Maintain routing system of all current transportation routing data.
• Maintain a log of computer procedures necessary to produce transportation routing documents.
• Communicate with drivers, parents, McKinney Vento staff and transportation supervisors regarding routing services.

Other

• Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
• Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
• Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief.
• Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of Manual Trades
- Transportation Personnel.

Standard office equipment, including computer and peripherals; district vehicle

Posture:
Prolonged sitting; standing, kneeling/squatting bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting; may work in tiring and uncomfortable positions over, in and under vehicles

Frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladders/scaffolding; regular grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching
