The Shipping & Receiving Lead is responsible for overseeing the daily activities of the shipping and receiving department to ensure the accurate, safe, and efficient movement of raw materials, finished goods, and inventory. This role provides leadership to warehouse personnel, coordinates inbound and outbound shipments, maintains inventory accuracy, and ensures compliance with company safety and quality standards.

The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, highly safety-conscious, and capable of leading a team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Leadership & Team Coordination
  • Lead and support Shipping & Receiving Clerks and warehouse personnel in daily operations
  • Assign and prioritize workload to ensure timely processing of shipments and receipts
  • Train team members on shipping, receiving, inventory, and safety procedures
  • Promote a culture of safety, teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement
  • Assist management with scheduling, performance coaching, and operational improvements.
Shipping Operations
  • Coordinate and oversee all outbound shipments to ensure accuracy and on-time delivery.
  • Verify customer orders, packing slips, bills of lading, and shipping documentation.
  • Schedule freight pickups and communicate with carriers regarding shipment status.
  • Ensure proper packaging, labeling, and compliance with transportation regulations.
  • Investigate and resolve shipping discrepancies or customer delivery issues.
Receiving Operations
  • Oversee the receipt of incoming raw materials, packaging supplies, and other inventory.
  • Verify received materials against purchase orders and shipping documents.
  • Inspect incoming products for damage, accuracy, and quality concerns.
  • Coordinate the timely unloading and storage of materials.
  • Communicate receiving discrepancies to Procurement, Inventory, or Operations teams.
Inventory Management
  • Maintain accurate inventory records through ERP or inventory management systems.
  • Conduct cycle counts and assist with physical inventory audits.
  • Monitor inventory levels and communicate shortages or over
  • Ensure inventory is properly identified, stored, and organized.
  • Support inventory accuracy initiatives and warehouse optimization efforts.
Safety & Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with all OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and operational procedures.
  • Lead by example in maintaining a safe and clean work environment.
  • Conduct routine inspections of warehouse equipment and storage areas.
  • Report and investigate safety incidents, near misses, or equipment concerns.
  • Ensure proper handling and storage of chemical products and hazardous materials when applicable.
Warehouse Operations
  • Operate forklifts and material handling equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Assist with warehouse organization, housekeeping, and workflow improvements.
  • Support production and customer service teams with material movement and inventory needs.
  • Maintain records related to shipping, receiving, inventory, and transportation activities.
Qualifications:

Education & Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Associate degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or related field preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in shipping, receiving, warehouse, or logistics operations
  • Previous lead, supervisory, or team leadership experience preferred.
  • Experience in a manufacturing, chemical, or industrial environment is highly desirable.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Strong understanding of shipping, receiving, and inventory control processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret bills of lading, packing slips, purchase orders, and shipping documents.
  • Experience with ERP, WMS, or inventory management systems.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Outlook
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift throughout the workday.
  • Frequently lift and carry materials up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other warehouse equipment.
  • Ability to work in a warehouse and manufacturing environment, including exposure to varying temperatures and industrial equipment.
