SUMMARY:

The GSRP Assistant/Associate teacher is responsible for working as a team member in providing quality pre-school education for students by providing additional support to the teacher. The GSRP Assistant/Associate teacher is also responsible for non-instructional and concept/skill reinforcement tasks.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Works with individual and small groups of students.
  • Supports children's emotional and social development, encouraging understanding of others and positive self-concepts
  • Assists children with personal health care needs; including grooming and diaperinf if needed.
  • Works collaboratively and communicates with the Lead Teacher regarding children's behavior and progress.
  • Follows Great Start Readiness Program Implementation Manual and supporting documents as defined by MDE.
  • Follows written IEP(s) and support plans, if applicable.
  • Collects and documents data regarding the student(s).
  • Supervise students in classrooms, hallway, cafeterias, and/or playgrounds.
  • Supervises the classroom when the Lead Teacher is out of the room and/or assumes Lead Teacher role when the Lead Teacher is absent.
  • Assists with loading and unloading of children transported to and from the program.
  • When needed, assist with the medical needs of students.
  • Observe students' performance and record relevant data to assess progress.
  • Maintains accurate and complete student records.
  • Maintains confidentiality of families and workplace.
  • Works closely with building principal, support staff, teachers, volunteers and students.
  • Participates in home visits and parent-teacher conferences.
  • Participate in trainings and ongoing professional development.
  • Adheres to district and school rules and procedures.
  • Conducts behavior to demonstrate collegiality and professionalism.
  • Maintains regular in-person attendance.
  • Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • None.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • An Associates Degree (AA) in Early Childhood Education or Child Development or the equivalent; OR
  • A valid Center-Based Preschool (CDA) credential (if credential before 2011); OR
  • An existing 120 Hour approval letter.
  • Work experience in a preschool setting is required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from administrators, students, staff, and the general public consistent with the duties of this position.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as grants, journal articles, governmental forms and handbooks and is able to follow instructions.
  • Ability to express self clearly; both orally and in writing.
  • Excellent grammar, spelling, and punctuation skills.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure consistent with the duties of this position.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations consistent with the duties of this position.
REASONING ABILITY:
  • Ability to solve complex problems and deal with variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form consistent with the duties of this position.
  • Exhibit high level of professionalism with the ability to handle confidential information, use good judgment, plan and handle complex projects, and maintain a flexible attitude.
