Responsibilities- Provide academic Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) for At Risk students, including research-based instruction in reading, writing, and mathematics.
- Provide professional development and instructional coaching for classroom teachers in research-based instructional practices.
- Comprehend and impart the content of applicable grade level and subject curriculum.
- Communicate with children and adults in a clear and interactive manner.
- Speak, hear, see and write clearly, with or without assistive device(s).
- Direct students' activities and correct student behavior when necessary.
- Communicate with parents through telephone and email.
- Perform reporting tasks as required, including the production of lesson plans and the issuance of student grade and progress reports.
- Walk/stand for the full scheduled period, with minimal sitting options (teacher may be seated during preparation and lunch periods).
- Adhere to all Board and District policies.
- Comply with responsibilities in the HEA Collective Bargaining Agreement.
- Maintain regular in-person attendance.
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with elementary (K-5 All Subjects; K-8 Self-Contained All Subjects) required. Additional certification in Reading (RT) preferred.
- 2-3 years previous teaching experience required.
- Meet appropriate placement guidelines for the area of responsibility.
- Demonstrates leadership in communicating a clear vision and working cooperatively with others to attain that vision.
- Willingness to take professional risks to improve student opportunities.
- Willingness to advance learning through professional development opportunities.
- Explain and demonstrate appropriate teaching techniques.
- Read, analyze, and interpret periodicals and professional journals.
- Present information and respond to questions from educators, students, and the general public.
- Write lesson plans, business correspondence, and other related communications.
- Express self clearly, both orally and in writing.
- Integrate technology into everyday workflow.
- Utilize district technology and maintain proficiency as skills change.
- Use computer technology for research, data management, communications, and instruction.
- Operate a PC or MAC in a networked environment and utilize the Internet and other electronic communications.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office productivity applications (word processing, spreadsheets, database, and presentation software).
- Apply concepts of basic math, algebra, and geometry consistent with the duties of this position.
- Highly proficient in subject areas of reasoning, problem solving, organizational dynamics, and emotional intelligence.
- Ability to solve practical problems and manage concrete variables when limited standardization exists.
- Maintain high professionalism, confidentiality, good judgment, planning, and flexibility for complex projects.
- Interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form.
- Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Build rapport with others and serve diverse publics.
- Take initiative; work well with others as a collaborative team member and exhibit good communication skills.
- Work effectively and collaboratively with other departments, agencies, and individuals.
The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to manage objects, reach with hands and arms, talk or hear, and taste or smell. Occasional sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling is required. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 35 pounds such as books and teaching material. The position requires occasional irregular or extended work hours and handling multiple demands from several people.
