Livingston ESA Adult Ed Lab is seeking a dedicated ESL Instructor to support a student within the Adult Education program for the upcoming academic year, effective July 6, 2026, through April 2027. This role requires a 10-hour weekly commitment, consisting of 6 hours of in-person instruction—scheduled from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Mondays and Wednesdays between September and April—and 4 hours of weekly preparation time, which will serve as the primary focus during the summer months of July and August.

Compensated at a rate of $30 to $35 per hour depending on experience, this position offers a unique opportunity for an educator to provide personalized, high-quality language instruction within a program where the weekly academic schedule may fluctuate based on the official school calendar.

Job Duties:

• Support students in reading, writing, listening and speaking.
• Implement a comprehensive assessment system (e.g. formative, interim and summative) for the purpose of monitoring student achievement and utilizing the data to guide and inform instruction.
• Communicate effectively and work cooperatively with students, staff and parents.
• Work with newcomers and willingness to learn about students' backgrounds and culture.
• Meet the language support needs of EL students through lessons centered around common core/WIDA standards.
• Flexibility to deliver instruction in synchronous and asynchronous formats with proficiency in using learning management systems.

• A valid Michigan teaching certificate with an appropriate elementary, middle, or secondary-level with endorsement in English/language arts, ESL, or bilingual education.
• Capability to provide own transportation.
• Knowledge of SIOP and cooperative learning strategies.

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit use hands to finger, handle, or feel; talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud and is a standard acceptable level for this environment. Is directly responsibility for student safety, work output and well-being. The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout his/her employment.
