Position Summary

Livingston Educational Service Agency is seeking a dedicated, student-centered Secondary Science Teacher to deliver engaging, standards-based instruction to middle and/or high school students. The ideal candidate will foster a safe, supportive, and academically rigorous classroom environment that empowers students in critical thinking, scientific inquiry, and literacy across science disciplines.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Instructional Delivery:
    Plan and deliver rigorous, age-appropriate science instruction in both synchronous and asynchronous learning environments using modern Learning Management Systems (LMS).
  • Literacy Integration:
    Embed reading, writing, listening, and speaking strategies within the science curriculum to enhance overall student comprehension and communication.
  • Assessment & Data Use:
    Implement a balanced assessment system (formative, interim, and summative) to track student progress, analyze performance data, and adjust instruction to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Classroom & Student Management:
    Establish a positive, inclusive, and structured learning environment. Oversee student safety, behavior, and daily supervision in classroom, laboratory, and hallway settings.
  • Collaboration & Communication:
    Maintain frequent, transparent communication with students, parents, and colleagues. Work closely with grade-level teams, professional learning communities (PLCs), and administration.
Qualifications
  • Certification:
    Valid Michigan Secondary Teaching Certificate with appropriate endorsement in a Science field (e.g., Integrated Science [DI], Biology [DA], Chemistry [DC], Physics [DE], or Earth/Space Science [DH]).
  • Experience:

    Minimum of one (1) year of successful teaching experience preferred.
  • Educational Technology:
    Proficiency in operating learning management systems, educational software, and digital classroom tools.
  • Student Focus:
    Demonstrated competency in classroom management, student supervision, and supporting diverse learner populations.
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Communication:
    Exceptional verbal and written communication skills suitable for students, parents, staff, and community members.
  • Professional Integrity:
    Strong commitment to confidentiality regarding sensitive student data, IEPs/504s, and school matters.
  • Teamwork & Flexibility:
    Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team setting and adapt quickly to changing educational environments and instructional needs.
  • Reasoning & Problem-Solving:
    Ability to carry out detailed written and oral instructions, apply practical reasoning to everyday classroom scenarios, and resolve routine student or administrative challenges effectively.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
  • Physical Demands:
    Regularly required to sit, speak, hear, and use hands to manipulate teaching materials and equipment. Frequently required to stand, walk, reach, stoop, kneel, or crouch. Must occasionally lift or move up to 30 pounds (e.g., lab supplies, educational materials).
  • Work Environment:
    Typical school and laboratory environment with a noise level that ranges from moderate to loud. Directly responsible for student safety, supervision, lab protocol compliance, and overall well-being.
  • Drug-Free Workplace:
    Employees must remain free of alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substances in the workplace throughout employment.
