Ten (10) month position (Generally 13.75 hrs/week; 2.75 hrs/day; 11:15 a.m.

- 2:00 p.m.)

First day of school for students - Last day of school for students

FLSA Status:
Non-exempt

SUMMARY

The Food Service Assistant provides support in our student nutrition program by working in our school cafeterias, preparing and serving food, cleaning and sanitizing all items and areas within the department, handling food purchase transactions, and providing excellent customer service to staff and students.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Roamer – must be willing to work at other schools as needed. Hours and times may vary. Hours may increase due to school and position.
  • Helps wash and sanitize pots and pans.
  • Helps with preparing side dishes and assembling foods.
  • Condiments—keeps them filled, clean and sanitized.
  • Replenishes food as needed.
  • Fills buckets with sanitizing solution for cafeteria tables.
  • Fills sinks for doing dishes. Make sure sinks are clean and sanitized before filling them.
  • Helps clean and sanitize milk cooler and refrigerators.
  • Assists in putting stock away.
  • Cleans and sanitizes work area.
  • Sweeps and mops kitchen floor.
  • Assists with recording on daily production records.
  • Breaks down boxes.
  • Takes out trash and recyclables.
  • Must move into FSA #1 position when needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student accounts.
  • Any other duties assigned by the Kitchen Manager or the Food Service Supervisor.
  • Regular, predictable in-person attendance.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Must be willing to work at other schools if needed. Hours and times may increase and vary.

All job descriptions can change upon the discretion of the Kitchen Manager and/or the Food Service Supervisor.

Note: Food Service Employees running a register need to keep all computer register components clean and free of dust. This includes: computer register/monitor, keyboard, mouse, cord and computer stand.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High school diploma (or equivalent); and must pass a basic math skills test.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written English language;
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions;
  • Ability to work with the general public and students.
COMPUTER SKILLS
  • Basic computer skills.
QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of District requirements and Board policies / administrative guidelines;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to communicate effectively, speaking clearly and communicating thoughts succinctly;
  • Ability to react well under pressure, handle and balance multiple demands at one time, work with frequent interruptions and perform duties and tasks at expected levels of professionalism with minimal supervision;
  • Accurate and detail oriented;
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, parents, teachers, administration and the school community.
